E91 Technic LOC100i Add a Sub Help

We have a E91 with factory 767 HiFi system. We are trying to add a sub in the cargo area.

I just bought a used Technic LOC100i add a sub harness with the Link 2 gain controller. JL MX300 mono-sub and Kicker 10" sub box. Nothing major.

I thought the installation wold be smooth but I'm having issues.
  1. I have traced the power and it all seems ok. I get 12V trigger signal to the amp and it light up. The trigger in to Link 2 and Trigger out to Amp works.
  2. Link 2 does not power up (Issue 1)
  3. With Technic harness connector and nothing else connected there is no sound from speakers, plug in the factory harness back and sound returns (issue 2)

I have checked the Technic website and LOC100i is the right harness for this car, but clearly its not even passing the standard signals through.

I have checked all the relevant fuses on the dash and it works. The power line from Technic harness to Link 2 has a mini-fuse, says 1A needed but all I had is 2A. I don't think this would matter to my Issue 2

Are there any fuses in the left rear quarter of E91? when we initially connected everyone we heard a pop, like a fuse. But we can't find any. our 12V signal wire was not secure and I've since soldered it onto rear 12V accessory socket power lead.

Any ideas?

note: Previous owner of the harness wired the speaker wires for the under-seat subs, I have them connected to all 4 speaker inputs on Link 2...I technically need 1 set.

that appears to be a Hi Fi 676 system .
And I don't see a Technic add a sub system in those pictures.
I see a splitter in the inbetween harness that is not split in the first picture.
You could try talking to Technic and go look at what is adapter looks
like on his site.

Kinda hard to tell but I can see that it may not be 100% the same. The harness was listed as LOC100i which is what my car needs. I did email TechnicPNP and waiting to hear back. I also sent them a link to this post for details.

I see on Technic PNP site that they use the part coding across many models. the G series products have a RAM LOC100i, which looks exactly like what I bought. Distinction seems to be the second set of connectors that are pass through but could accommodate another amp maybe at some point....not sure.

No response from Technic but I suppose they are like "wrong harness idiot" I looked at the eBay listing and it did say RAM LOC100i - my mistake.

Reading some of your links and discussions around LOC converters, DSPs, etc.. it turns out the AMP I bought, JL MX300/1 accepts balanced and unbalanced inputs. Which means I can tap directly into sub speaker wires and convert to RCA inputs to the amp directly. I would no longer need the LOC Link2 that's part of the TechnicPNP kit.

RAM LOC100i going to classifieds/eBay.

Yup shouldn't need a line level converter just run the Inputs of the old
amp for which speakers you want to use into the new amp .
Although the system will still be weak because of the crappy BMW amp
and speakers.

its my son's car, he will be happy as shit with more "bass" but I can see how DSP/AMP/Speakers can be a nice step up.

For our F22 228i I did experiment with upgraded
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32568...2usa4itemAdaptB&W drivers, from Ali Express so I'm sure they are not genuine, but super high quality and sound did improve.

My son got impatient so we spliced it in. As it was suggested from another older tread, we verified the cable colors to pin locations and confirmed which to tap into.

Spliced 1 RCA into Left sub channel and it seems to be working just fine driving a single sub Chanel amp. large HD velcro keeps amp on the Side of trim panel. I do see the value of getting the harness but we ran out of time to get the right part.

by the way, soldering sucks. I made it work but not the highest quality.

There are some very reliable T taps these day s you don't have to
solder.
