Melted Intake Manifold '07 335i

Has anyone else experience this problem? I am in the process of walnut blasting, and when I took off my intake manifold, the plastic was melted near the rear/bottom.

Everything is still intact, but is this something I should be concerned about?

Photos? Could it be the PCV heater?

Did your passenger floor board fly off the car? I heard that sometimes happens when there's a danger to manifold

How old is the intake manifold & the 6 gaskets?

I have never heard of a melted intake manifold. They are not cheap either, in terms of buying a new one.

So upon closer inspection it looks like there is much more damage. My crank case vent hose is a little melted, as well as some of my valve cover and battery line from the starter.

Everything is original, 135k miles. I'm in the process of changing my valve cover gasket and walnut blasting my intakes.

It seems crazy but it looks like there was almost some kind of fire.

There was a fire there mate. Is your car part of the recall? We are yet to do any here but I'm not sure of the situation in USA

That's a fire alright... the only recalls out there on the e90 are blower motors, airbags & some injectors.

Check your starter & battery leads.

I feel for you; this sucks. You've got well over $1200 in repairs... maybe even as high as $2000.00

That looks like the blow by heater that caught fire. Same part more or less than the recalled one on the N52's.

Ouch, yes the PCV heater was recalled, I had mine changed. They removed the alternator to change it.

Ahhhh yup. You nailed it. Nice work gents, thank you for the help.

I was trippin! In my mind there was no way my engine was getting that hot without going into limp mode.

Does anyone know if BMW covers damage like this on their recall? Or does anyone have experience with the reimbursement program? I'm 4 hours from the nearest dealership.

I would contact a dealer or head office and bring it to their attention. They may ask for the part for examination and you may save many cars from going up in flames. Without this data, they may never issue a recall
