CCC to CIC Retrofit

Hey guys so I know it's been covered in many different threads but I can't find a more recent one and I want to make sure I am going about this right.

I have a 2007 335 with CCC

Recently purchased CIC Head Unit and Screen along with CIC Cable (from screen to head unit) and new power connector for CIC screen.

I've read two different things saying you need FSC codes to activate navigation and voice, and some saying you need the emulator.

I have someone that can generate FSC codes so do I need the emulator. I can do all the coding myself, in regards to switching VO, adding what needs to be added.

Any help would be appreciated because I am mainly doing the upgrade for the Navi features and plan on adding Combox soon.

I would recomend the emulator rout.

One thing to consider is reverse camera, now you cant use a CIC emulator and a rear cam emulator in tandom. When i was doing my retrofit i new i wanted to get a rear cam at somepoint (i actually installed it when i did the retrofit for the CIC as the cam was £20) so i bought an emulator that had the capicity to emulate both in one box. it was a bit more expensive but well worth it

http://carsystems.com.ua/bmw-product...ra-emulator-en

thats the link to the website that makes them and i managed to secure one on Ebay that was pre-wired.

I appreciate the suggestion but I have rear PDC and am happy with that, just looking for CIC emulator alone.

Just to give you a different option.

CIC can be script activated now. This avoids the requirement for emulator or FSC code.

How do you do this? With coding software?

That i can buy a USB that inc fsc code, just to put the usb in the car.. wait 1-2min.. and its done..

The usb is lockt to my vin number.

NBT can't be script activated anyway. I don't know about your company but NBT was never designed for e chassis so emulator is needed for some other things.

I'd be surprised if you get a fully working NBT in e series without an emulator but nothing is impossible I guess...

I have Ethernet cable, would you be willing to do this remotely?

Yes, we could try. I forgot that if not doing this on the bench then you'll need to add the enet connection from the CIC to the OBD2 port. Forgot to mention this but it's very simple.

No, different connector to go to back of Head unit and different pin out on the power cable for the screen

Thanks for replying, I have read about changing the pin outs and that doesnt seem too bad, but if you had the Sat nav/cd unit, Display and Idrive controller all those would connect together?

I have read loads of different guides and how to's and they all seem to differ in parts required and how complex they are, as there are CIC sets on ebay for like £250 which include the Sat nav/cd unit, Display and Idrive controller, would this be worth getting or do you need to get a different set of hardware?

It might be different where you are, but here in US, I was able to source a head unit and screen for $250 in total, I kept my old controller which works fine, and besides buying the new connector for the new pin out and the screen cable for the connection between head unit and screen, the only other thing is coding and an emulator to activate nav and voice

I guess if the old controller works then it makes it easier in terms of parts, as you dont need to get the new trim piece etc. I have the idrive controller with the menu button, but guessing it will all work the same.

Yep, just no shortcuts. Imo with the cost of the trim piece and finding the one to match your interior, it's easier just to keep the one you have. I have no problem with my CCC Controller and unless I stumble upon a very fairly priced trim piece and controller, I'll probably just keep it. Next for me is Combox

Well yea except emulator is best bet of your looking for sat radio and easier map updates, you can do script coding for map activation but it's a little more complicated to update maps and also you can not activate Sirius with script Fsc coding
