Do I go Dinan S3 or Giac S2? chime in please
I currently have the Dinan S2 with Dinan CAI, IC, and BMW Performance Exhaust. I am now debating going to either Dinan S3 or Giac S2. I'm not sure about the piggy back systems, I feel every time I look in this forum someone is having some sort of problem with them. I have had the Dinan S2 tune for 4 years now not one problem, but now my warranty just expired and I want more power. I want to keep the reliability that I have had with Dinan but I'm affraid it will not be enough for me. I also want to try adding DP's and a Meth kit, also not sure if the Dinan tune can handle those upgrades. any opinions are welcomed.
EDIT - I mainly do street driving I go to the track maybe 1-2 a year. Thanks, Jorge |

since you have a 07 out of warranty definetely GIAC stage 2 which is a more refined tune and allows you to boost a tad more than Dinan and costs way less. You need dps though either catted (but than you need to remove the midpipes cats) or catless (no need to remove the midpipes cats). Search Mr.5 posts he has collected a lot of data on GIAC.

Thanks I'll look for his post. I am leaning toward GIAC. Dinan S3 is an upgrade for me so it will run about 500 or so, GIAC will be about 1400.00 with all the tunes and controller. Dinan will be the cheapest route for me but not really sure how Dinan will handle the other mods, I just don't know how aggressive GIAC S2 will be for street use or Daily Driving.

Your mods are better suited for Dinan S3 because you don't have catless downpipes. If you don't want any catalyst CELs, smog test problems, O2 simulator mess, etc. I would say get the Dinan S3, the $500 for Dinan will add to the car's resale value, since Dinan is respectable in the US. 408 crank hp is also on par with GIAC Stage 2.
If in the future you will find Dinan lacking power, you can always switch to GIAC S2 Race with methanol, etc. |

I had a flash that is comparable to your Dinan S2 for a bit more than a year, and was basically in the same situation. I've now had the GIAC stage 2 for almost the same amount of time and - along with the additional modifications I did in the meantime - it's much stronger than the previous flash. I didn't have any problem at all with it, either, and GIAC also offers the possibility of a race flash that is adapted for meth injection as well as the mapswitching device, which is very practical. The Dinan wont support meth or down pipes, so if these are mods you would like to do then it may be worth switching to GIAC...if your not to sure, then i would pay the $500 upgrade and see if that sways your decision.

If you are out of warranty get a Procede for the $600. That way it will clear codes automatically etc..GIAC/Dinan, won't clear anything and idiots lights will be popping up for sure unless you have an O2 sim...

I know for a fact that a GIAC stage 1 car will make more power than Dinan stage 3 given that the mods stay the same.
GIAC really is all that. As I've said before, I have 93k miles and have been running GIAC for about 30k miles now and have had no issues whatsoever.

UPDATE:
After weeks of google and forum searching I decided to go with Cobb Tuning. Although they are a new tuning option for BMW they will offer custom tunes for our cars as well as tuning software for the end user. I did not try the GIAC tune I'm sure it would have been a great tune. I also didn't want to get stuck with a second ECU tune that I will not be able to resell. If I decide to sell the car later, I can always revert back to the Dinan tune and sell the Cobb. Thanks for everyones response. Jorge |
