Brake Questions
So its time to replace my front pads on my 2009 E92 w/63K miles.
Questions: - Does BMW OEM have a low-dust pad option? Any experience with this? - Unfortunately, I don't have the tools or time to do this myself. How "silly" would it be for me to take my car to an independent shop for this work? Its just brakes, right. Cant be so unique that its dealer only work - what can i expect to pay at the dealer opposed to an independent? - Should I go ahead and replace the rear pads at the same time? Thank you for your time! |

From the forums, many people complain that any of the OEM options generate plenty of dust. Many have used low dust, high performance pads from Stoptech, EBC, and Hawk with plenty of good things to say about them. I personally enjoy my EBC yellow stuffs which are a great track option that performs well daily driven.
As for shops, I prefer taking my vehicles to non-dealership specialists. For typical repairs, a BMW specific shop will see tons of brake changes and will be more than adequate to do the job well. You'll also see a large savings often in the range of 30% or more (usually more). You'll also see savings when you combine multiple jobs such as doing the front and rear at the same time. |
