e92 335 m3 rep bumper with custom GT4 lip
After seeing the GT4 lip for the first time I fell in-love with the design and immedialty wanted to order one for my 335. Unfortunately there are no companies that manufacture this lip for an m3 rep bumper. I decided to purchase one and cut and do all the work myself. I purchased the lip on ebay for $250, it came in primer and made for an m3.
The shape was completely off at first, the real m3 has a more aggressive curve to the bumper so i cut it down in the middle and began to mess around with sanding and trimming until I found the position that looked the best for me. This was my first time ever working with fiberglass, it isnt too difficult to work with. However it does get very messy, and I advise you to watch several youtube videos to learn the concept. I put a strip of fiberglass down the middle to reinforce the lip together. Than by the airducts I began to add sheets of fiberglass to increase the size of the curve. This way the bumper would sit flush. I test fitted the bumper and the lip was already looking great. Many sheets of fiberglass later, I had the entire lip reinforced from the inside to the bottom. It was very sturdy. I began the initial stages of sanding to get the basic shape of the lip. I test fitted the lip under the bumper to see how low it would make me sit. I started sanding the fiberglass to get it as flat as possible before the body work that was about to be done. This took several hours, and alot of sandpaper. Now started the bondo phase, which was pretty fun to do. I put thin layers of bondo and allowed it to dry before applying the next layer. I put alot of extra bondo in spots to make it more even. Overall my method was probably not the best but hey it worked. Now I began to sand down the bondo, and apply more to the uneven surfaces. After alot of sanding down the lip was very smooth, however there were minor scratches and imperfections. I than used glazing putty and covered all the necessary parts so it would look close to perfect. Finally I began to sand everything back down to get the lips final shape. I than applied some primer to the lip to cover the entire area that I was working in. The primer did a great job in covering little scratches and leveling out the lip. I was very happy with my progress. At first I decided to wrap this lip in carbon fiber, after attempting this for several hours I gave up. It was really difficult to do so. I have some wrap left over and am looking for someone to wrap this lip for me, I would also be intersted in having the lip layed in carbon fiber similar to the fiberglass method. For now I just rattle-caned the lip, as it is only temporary and I was very eager to see how it would look on my 335. Overall I am very happy with this lip, and I think all the work I put into was worth it. The lip does have imperfections, however this was my first time doing anything like this. I cant wait to have the lip wrapped in carbon, Ill be sure to update this thread with a photo. If you wanna follow my build check me out on instagram @e92.andre |

Dude...props for doing all that work yourself. Clearly I don’t know much about lowering and whatnot...is that an air suspension or something? There’s no way that is drivable with that lip so low right???
