So..e85 fuel mix.

Hey guys,

Got bored and was curious if a 20l top up of e85 would have any effect on timing changes with a stock ots cobb map.

Just one question, is it normal that running an e85 mix causes a long startup first thing in the morning? It only seems to happen on the 1st cold start.

If you have any timing corrections than adding the ethanol would certainly help prevent them as the ethanol is more resistant to knock.

Do you have a n54 or N55?

I know on my cobb OTS E30 map the car hauled arse compared to the 98 map! AFAIK you have to be FBO to run the OTS E30 map though?

FWIW running E50 I notice no difference in cold starts etc

N55 on the standard 98ron stage 2+ aggressive map. Unfortunately there's no OTS e30 map. Car is FBO. Adaptations were reset after the top up.

I tried a 3rd gear wot log but accidentally hit the kickdown switch (need to block the damn thing) and then realised dtc wasn't completely off.

Seems to be less individual cyl timing corrections and the corrections are smaller even though it isn't an e30 map..

The weird thing is that dct shifts feel alot crisper and smoother on the downshifts even after a week of adaptation...

Will try do another 3rd gear log when its dry

I use to put 18L in an empty tank and fill up on 98 when I was stock
No ill effects expect the extra kick

Would not go much higher then 18L TBH, for example E50 is around 32L in an empty tank
E50 is a pretty hefty Exx mix

Yup, I quite like the way the engine is running currently even if it's probably all in my head..

The 20l e85 top was just enough to put the gauge to full so it was reasonably close..

The funny thing is that I would probably still fill up the 40 odd litres with bp98 first and drive the few k's to united for the e85..(yeah I'm weird

)

20l of e85 in a tank would be about e27-e28 depending on ethanol content.

AFR seems to be in the 10.5's from low 5k rpm leaning slightly to 11 from 6k rpm

Log, your lpfp. It's not designed for ethanol contents that high.

I can't seem to find the LPFP or HPFP logging parameters on the accessport datalog options. Not available for N55? Oh well it was interesting to see if e30 made any difference.

If running any ethanol mixtures, i believe a LPFP upgrade is required.

I am running 5 gallons of E85 and 11 gallons 93 octane (E10) with stock pump which is E33 about 2 years (summer times only) and never had a problem but lately my LPFP drops down to 59-60. But I heard that below 50 is bad..

The long crank is more than likely simply because the fuel trims are not adjusted in the flash to compensate for the different energy content of the E35-ish mix that you are running.

You will not have any extra performance from adding e85 while on the same tune.

Fuel doesnt change the power your making.

Theres no use putting e85 in unless your tuned for the e content or tuned for pump fuel and add a bit off e85 for a bit of octane safety.

i had long cranks with the 20L on stock pumps.
after the lpfp upgrade + sparkplug change that long crank was gone.
But check your logs, i was dipping under 50 for my lpfp.
