Exclamation N54 Tuning advice needed

Hi everyone,I recently purchased a beautiful 2008 e92 335 n54 with 100k miles.
The car has been serviced and well taken care of.

My question
Is 100kMiles considered too much to run a jb4 tune on a low map?
Im not looking for crazy hp but under 400 would be nice.and i am not planning on turning this car into a crazy racing breast. this is gonna be used as a daily driver. Last thing i want to do is have to rebuild or swap in a new engine.

Have any of you had problems caused by jb4 maintenance wise?
If not jb4 for a daily driver. What else would you recommend?

If your only looking for a little power bump I'd go with MHDs stage 1 90oct tune. No serious modification and no messing with the ECU. It'll also be cheaper, especially if you already have an android device.

Anyway, MHD has good logging, several options of power, and you can sorta figure out what you car can live with based on hardware age by starting at S1 and working from there. Read the first part of the MHD thread and come back

you can do a compression test see how healthy the engine is. Also you should check if the turbos have been changed or not. If not, a tune is going to wear out the turbos more quickly so keep that in mind.

That's a general statement. You still might need new plugs if you are going to put a tune on. Also walnut blasting.

Mileage isn't the best determinant of whether or not a tune will hurt or kill a car. For instance, I'd rather have a car with 100k highway miles than 15k miles with an idiot 16yr old behind the wheel.

As others mentioned, condition of cylinder compression, plugs, coils, injectors, intake valve cleanliness, fuel pump, etc, all help determine how well a car runs when you up the boost, fuel delivery, and timing. Ensure it's running properly then throw JB4 or MHD on it and go from there. I did all the maintenance items first just to prep the car for the tune. Tested 150-160 PSI on all 6 cylinders @ 134k miles too, and it hasn't skipped a beat in 2k grinning miles.

Not at all, you can actually run any map as long as you have the recommended mods.

I sold my car with 120k running map 6 and pushing 450 whp, no issues related to tuning

A well maintained car can still be very healthy at 100K. I know a lot of people have the misconception that something magical happens at 100K but if the engine is healthy then it should be fine. Plenty of our customers are 3rd and 4th owners just tuning their vehicles over 100K miles.

130k+ stock engine 600+ club here. Be gentle on warmups, good on maintenance, and leave room in your tune. The whole car is a wear item. Enjoy it!
