I don't mean to be a downer, but want to make sure everyone is aware of this in case something unfortunate happens while at a track. Would hate to see someone be surprised to find this out after the fact.

Most insurance policies implemented a "racing surface" clause that won't cover any damage that happens while on a racing surface. Years ago, driving schools used to be covered as long as they weren't timed or in preparation for a timed event.

Whether you're racing, driving school, autocross, drag strip, etc. your insurance may not cover any damage, so check your policy and be aware of the risks involved.

oh yeah Matt. They even make it a point that if they see anyone at the HPDE with a stopwatch or anything the like, they'll throw you out. I think my insurance company would tell me to go fly a kite if I broke something at the track. But as you noted, it's pretty much drive at your own risk, including insurance.

Me on Saturday, not sure anyone else from here doing Sunday.

For insurance, they do offer a supplementary insurance for anyone interested. You would really really have to do something boneheaded to damage your car out there on the HPDE days.

Who else is doing the Car control clinic on the 30th? If you are, are you going to do the Autocross school as well? I have never done it before but I think I am actually gonna try it this time.

I might go. Don't doubt it's fun, but I want to save my tires for HPR.

And thanks for posting the insurance warning Matt. It is fun but serious business out there. I saw the results of rolled over M5 at Mid-Ohio once at a BMWCCA DS, not a picture in my mind that I'll ever forget.

Edit: If you go to the CCC, definitely do the Auto-X. Be prepared to be worked by E36s and Minis. Lightness is more important at auto-x than even at track, IMO.

I was considering Sunday but it's a lot cheaper to do a half day lapping day at HPR...and you get more driving time in. Still up in the air...

Gladius, I'm with you on that. I'd rather spend the money on a lapping day rather than the school. Was fun once but that's it for me

I guess I'm still too nervous about breaking shit is the reason I don't track it on non-HPDE days....maybe when the bank doesn't own my car anymore I will....

And I am going to the CCC/Auto-X school, should be fun.

Racey, are you getting insurance this year? I am not and I fully realize the risk. forza and gladius have valid points. I look at this way, you're paying a $20 premium on HPR's full cost ~one day~ open lapping day fee of $150. (They give you a deal if you buy a multi-day pass, BMWCCA's school is $170...) With that $20, you probably get less time on track than an open lapping day, but you get an instructor in the right seat. IMO, no matter how good (or bad) I get to be at this endeavor, I'll ALWAYS appreciate another good driver in the right seat. That and doing something with BMWCCA, is worth the $20+ premium to me.

I've done about 15 BMW CCA DE days, mostly at Pueblo, some at 2nd Creek and now HPR. They are great, and having an instructor is great, too. But at some point you just need to get in your car and drive it, get some practice in, without someone helping you/correcting your mistakes.

No insurance for me, I am not concerned about it with the instructor in the car...its if I were by myself that I know I would be pushing the hell out of the car (I just wouldn't be able to help myself) and ride more on the edge. I fully understand the risk, and if I break anything, well then that's me being a bonehead and will get it repaired.

...and a +1000 to everything you said.

Oh and I heard that Pueblo is paving the track at the end of this year! I will go back there again once they do, because it really was a fun track, just ate tires for lunch.

Hey guys, double post. Just checked my personal e-mail and noticed an e-mail from Leslie Jenkins on behalf of Michael Feldpusch that states we must register again on MotorsportReg.com for the CCC/auto-x school, otherwise we'll be charged for the event. Here's his full e-mail.

Quote:
Good afternoon:

If you have registered for the Spring Driving School and are planning on attending the free Car Control Clinic, please go to RMCBMWCCA.MotorsportReg.com and register for the Car Control Clinic event. Please use the COMP code: "BMWDSCCC", since you have already paid for the Driving School. You will not be charged. This extra step is REQUIRED in order to participate in the Car Control Clinic. This must be completed prior to April 26th. People who show up for the Car Control Clinic but have not been registered for the event in this manner, will have to pay full price for the event ($66). This is even if you have signed up for the CCC and the Spring Driving School previously.

This is strictly for administrative purposes so we can plan the event efficiently to provide a great experience for all our participants in the Car Control Clinic and Autocross school.

Thanks and have a great day.

Michael Feldpusch,
RMC BMW CCA Autocross Chair (Car Control Clinic Chair)
If you already paid for the HPDE and are plan on attending the CCC, don't forget to reregister!

Weather looks like it might be kinda wet for the CCC and Autocross Saturday but I will still probably go.

When are you guys heading down? Jason and I are planning on heading out from the Aurora/Centennial area around 5:30am. That gives us some time to account for the Springs rush hour traffic.

Racey and I are coming from the Aurora/Centennial area as well. I thought you lived up north?

Where are you guys meeting up at? Maybe we should all meet at the Chinese theater at 530 or something? What do you guys think?
