Good Morning fellow Bimmerpost forum members,

I am ///M_Jack, you can simply call me Jack. I hail from the fine locales of Canuckville Canada. This is my first post, and I wish to just get some insight from BMW Veterans and enthusiasts on this forum to the vehicle that I may potentially purchase at the end of this week.

I am planning a purchase a 2nd hand 2007 BMW 335i Coupe (E92), and this would be my first time owning a BMW.

I've browsed BMW 2nd hand vehicles for a long time. I really like the E92 M3 but it's way out of my budget. The current clean models listed for private sale here in my area (Vancouver, BC) are all in the high 30,000's or over 40,000s. Did have a time where I considered a 6-series 2005~ 645ci, that car i tested it and it was fast. Also, did consider a very clean E60 550i but the guy sold it really quickly.

My main targets (based on my budget) are the E46 M3s or E92 335i. However, good E46 M3's are hard to find, and lots of them are imported from the USA (not that USA cars are bad, just prefer local cars)

There is one vehicle that I am showing greater interest in:
It is a grey 2007 335i Coupe, 144,000KM (approx. 89,000 miles), only has 1 claim of $2000~, clean title, clean status, no liens or any funky stuff, as I ordered a Canadian Car Proof Report and everything looks good. He has all service records and showed me that the Turbocharger was replaced under warranty. It has the sport package, red interior (unfortunately no comfort access smart key entry or premium package or NAV)
His asking price is $15,000 CAD ($11700 USD approximately)

Please advise if I should be doing anything before offering, such as get the car checked in shop etc.

With a high mileage car like that you want to know if the water pump/thermostat has been replaced, typically goes at 70k miles, injectors, oil filter housing gasket, oil pan gasket. These are things happen in the 80-90k miles area so be careful because it can get expensive quick. Might be other things to look for if anyone else has any ideas.

Of course! A BMW Dealer or Independent Specialist (that knows what an Oil Filter Housing Gasket is) would be recommended.

I'd also recommend walnut blasting the intake right off of the bat, and plugs if they haven't done it in the last 40k.

Check the inside corners of the tires! Because of the suspension setup, the inside corners wear faster and a tire that looks nice and meaty on the outer edge can be done for, and replacements don't come cheap.

How comfortable are you with DIY? If you are not, then I would recommend having some money set aside for maintenance items regardless of how good of shape the car is in.

I'm not that great on on DIY stuff, especially on cars. Besides oil change and top up, and some minor cosmetic stuff, I will need some professionals to do it.

You need to learn how to be a DIYer since having it done by either dealer or indy shop can be costly.

I'm on the gasket train, you can become a DIY'er pretty easily with all the help here on the forums. Doesn't hurt to have an indy check the health of the turbos and waste gate as well.
