If Jim made it from Grant Junction to Beaver, you should be able to as well??? Perhaps you will need to Sid, since the engine isnt broken in yet, your getting worse MPG then you should. The gas tank on them things is the same size as ours??? By that math, assuming 16mpg and 15 gallons used, you can only get 240 miles??? Well...you may have to fill up in Richfield or even go off the highway in Green River to top off 16mpg wtf?? Maybe I dont envy you nearly as much now.

Damn...by that calculation, to be safe, you will need gas in Richfield too (220 miles from Grand Junction) and then coming into fumes in Vegas after filling up in Beaver. Thats like 6 stops just for you Sid. hahaha |

Meeting spot to stop in Grand Junction = ~230 Miles
Grand Junction to Beaver = ~285 Miles. Beaver to Vegas = ~225 Miles. That may mean we just have to stop to let you top off in Richfield which is ~225 miles from Junction. We'll see I guess. Whatever you lose going up the pass, you gain coming down at least. I still think mtn out of a mole hill. The only time they have been snow covered was at night during a heavy snow. The last 2 weeks Ive been checking and its been wet during daylight hours, snow or not. |

My highway miles have been pretty good. I averaged 27 back to lincoln but then again I dont have a huge engine lol. Im not worried about gas, or weather, everything is going to turn out fine maybe just a little wet.

Yesterday I was hopeful, the forecast had things clearing up. But not anymore. Forecast for Thursday over Vail is Rain and Snow 70%, high of 46. If I had my snows, I wouldn't see a problem. But with this forecast, I'm looking at alternative routes -- either via Santa Fe or through 4 corners.

Going down I-25, can cut over from Springs to the central valley avoiding Fairplay (also snowy forecast), or just go all the way down to I-40, which has a much happier forecast. So I'm not sure gambling on maybe I-70 will be passable is the best approach, especially with the snow forecast for the next several days (as opposed to the end of a storm). We're driving, don't need to decide until Thursday, but I am not up for white knuckling for several hours across Summit County (and perhaps in Utah as well). |

Let's start another "alternate route" thread. If you're interested in the alt. route, come to that thread please. Ilis, sounds like you've got the most experience with routes, could you please post a suggested route over there?
Thanks Matt

Id trust that forecast pretty good. It says showers and you can use the little map on the bottom right and click a spot on it and it gives you the forecast for that specific area. Just an FYI. Id trust it because its NOAA. They usually know more than the other sites. |

yea buddy and the forecast keeps changing. Now it says showers again and lows in the low 30's. Thats not enough to sustain a snow pack.....its gonna be a wet drive.
