Hey guys. I have a 2011 BMW 328i xDrive with 115,000 miles. I recently started having a small oil pan gasket leak. I have a qualified person who is going to help me with the repair. While I've got the subframe dropped and engine supported, I was also planning to do the following:
1. Replace oil pan gasket 2. Replace al oil pan bolts 3. Replace engine motor mounts (both sides) 4.replace differential fluid and drain caps 5. Replace oil drain plug and crush washer 6. Replace oil sensor seal/gasket (the sensor in the oil pan) 7. Replace crankcase fluid 8. Replace oil filter and oil. What other preventive maintenance items for this car should I consider while doing these repairs? I've already replace the oil filter housing gasket. |

You say your leak is only 'small'. I would recommend going round the sump bolts to check they are tight. Like you, I have a very small leak. I checked the torque of my sump pan bolts today and two of them were no more than hand tight! I'm hoping re-tightening them may stop the leak for a while...

I've read many people post on this forum that after 100,000 miles, When you do the Oil pan gasket, you may as well do the motor mounts while you have everything tore apart.

I did my gasket at 293,000 left the engine mounts alone. I still have not replaced them after another 99,000 miles. There is some internet myth about BMW bushings. People replace bushings on BMWs way too often for some reason. Worst is the xi has an additional bushing for the front drive, which reduces stress on the rest of the drivetrain bushings. Are you going to keep your car for another 100,000 miles? For most people that's almost 10 years.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."
