I have Bilstein HDs. I swapped a few years ago and also changed out all the bushings and put M3 control arm bushings on. My car had the sport package, and if I remember right, I kept the sport springs on. I also changed back to a staggered wheel setup when I did the suspension. I have 235/35 19s on the front and 265/30 19s on the rear. I already had an H&R rear sway bar, which as mentioned, massively flattens the car out when cornering.
I can’t remember exactly what my sport suspension felt like at this point, but it was stiff. When I did the suspension change, I just remember being very pleased as everything felt new and tight. Turn in felt better, and I can’t remember if the ride felt just a little softer, yet seemed to handle better. I really love the current set up. I live in the LA area, and my car is not a dream to drive on potholed city streets. It’s a fairly stiff suspension and my tires have little sidewall, so I definitely feel it when I hit a pothole. If I hit one hard enough, I worry about damage to the tire or rim. That being said, I think the car is an absolute joy to drive on a good surface. I drive the Pasadena freeway (110) on my commute home during off hours with light traffic. For non-locals that stretch of the 110 was one of the first freeways built around 1940. I think it was engineered for 45 mph, so there are lots of sweeping turns that are pure joy to drive at speeds faster than the freeway was originally intended. OP, if you are still following this thread, what shocks did you choose, and how do you like them?
