Footwell module recall and Particulate filter cleaning

It's been a long time since I posted here.
I still have the car , just no real problems till last week.

I'm at about 152,000 miles.
Got a warning light about the particulate filter. Took it to a local shop and he new immediately what's wrong with it.
The filter needs cleaning apparently.
I have monitored my regenerations for the past 100,000 miles almost and even forced some when I was not able to complete the "natural" cycle ones.
Somehow it got clogged up, I guess.

While I have the car there, the footwell module which controls all the lights died. This is another well known issue (not to me obviously) and BMW has a recall on it 8 years/120,000 miles.

Those of you still under warranty just make sure you have it replaced if you can.
It is expensive believe me.

Anyway, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Dixy what is the fault code for your DPF? The code may be just mileage based rather than condition based.

I had mine replace 2013. No recall then. Do you think I could get a refund?

There was no code. Actually I did not check the codes.

It gave me a warning on the screen regarding the filter. Reduced power may be experienced.
It's possible it is mileage based.

Mik325tds helped me with my FRM as well and then helped me remotely code it back to my car. Needless to say I’m very grateful.

I got it replaced.
The guy had to take the car to the dealer to have the ECU refreshed as per module replacement procedure. His software was not the latest one, so he could not do it.

I think the dealer wiped my ECU clean and rewrote the software. My tune is probably gone now, it does not feel as hard pulling as before.
I need to check the car in a few other ways to confirm this fear.

The module is currently in my possession, paper weight I guess.

My service advisor has mentioned that it is very common for the frm to die while reprogramming the car. Apparently it is suciptable to crashing and there is no simple recovery so they just replace it. The newer revisions are supposedly less suciptiable to this. But this is just repeating what my advisor has said.

Mine died as the guy got the car inside the service bay.

He was surprised I never had any problem with it so far. It just happened it died there.

Yes. This happened to mine the other year. They were reprogramming after cbu cleaning and the frm died. They replaced it with a new one.

I submitted for my FRM reimbursement yesterday. The car had 127k miles at time of the repair, which is 2k beyond the extended/limited warranty. I am hoping for a goodwill reimbursement!

The car was in the shop for a new battery when the FRM failed. Very frustrating as a customer. Hopefully BMW does me right.

Will they replace it if you aren't REALLY having issues? Everything on my car still works but I cant change anything using Carly which is kind of frustrating.

FRM warranty was extended to 10 years/156,000 miles. Just got my notification from BMW in the mail today for both my 2011 335d cars.

Got the paperwork in the mail also. Then one week later the module goes out. I take to the dealer and I guess to be dicks from my car being modded and fully deleted they reflashed my dde and wiped my stage 3 tune off. So I pick it up in limp mode with 15 dtc's. So I live an hour away and it was shitty drive home with the power reduction kicked in.

Yeah this happened to me too when my FRM crapped the bed, but the independent explained that at some point ISTA just takes over and updates what it wants to update. That was a terrible drive home for sure.

If your FRM is still working you can go to a BMW dealer and just have it updated to the newest Software. Much better than replacing it. However, if you have a tune you have to make sure that they only reflash the FRM not the whole car. Otherwise your tune will be wiped.

My tune got deleted too.
Indy had nothing to do with it. Dealer did it since apparently only they can do the updates.
In theory I can refresh it, but now I feel meh about it. I got some other issues with it so it can wait. Still considering getting another car, but I have been in this mood for the past 3 years at least.
