Most likely steering rack bolts but could be your ball joints going dry. Are the control arms original?

I think it's original, I got this car from an old guy. I gonna check the bolts and the joints tomorrow while changing my oil

I have the same situation and I've been chasing this down now for a couple of months. I have done the m3 arms upgrade and everything is tight. Still can't find the culprit.....

Check that your strut brace bolts are tight (30 ft-lbs on the towers, 78 ft-lbs in the center bolt). It's a quick and easy check. The second check would be your steering rack bolts.
