Hm I'll check in a bit I just know that if you got the dvd option in our cars your head unit gets 2 slot loading drives and the one at the bottom specifically says 'dvd' but I don't have that only got the cd drive where those shortcut numbers are that you can programme for telephone contacts.
But I'll stick a DVD in there to see what happens and report back! thanks |

so to my amazement today I stuck a dvd film into the cd drive in my car today and it worked I had never tried that in the 4 years I've owned the car lol!! I just never bothered because I saw the older models with two cd drives on the head unit and thought because I didn't opt for TV function I don't have the dvd function...I'm genuinely chuffed lol.
so I've ordered the navigation cd from bmw for £25 and ill message the guy from gpsunderground soon thanks for all the help guys you're brilliant! btw how do I go about enabling the TV function in my car do I need a tuner installed? |

Guys
Has any of you copied all three DVDs in one usb and tried it? I am trying to do that but in each DVD folder their names are pkgdb config.nfm I have a plan to name them and then tweak them manually each time with a computer when it ask for next DVD. Anybody else with a better idea? Thanks.

I tried that but to no avail, it didn't bring up the fsc code input. So long as you have 3 usb's, as opposed to my 2, the installation process should be a breeze not longer than 40mins. Fm |

Ok guys. I have updated the maps.
Few things; 1- One of very nice vendor on this forum provided FSC code for free. I was amazed. Thanks for that. I do not want to name the vendor as they will get 100 pms for free FSC codes. 2- I used single 32GB and a laptop. This is how you can use single 32GB usb to update the maps. Save first DVD to your USB. There will be two files. Just rename them by inserting 1 at the end. Repeat the same with 2nd and 3rd DVD by renaming them to 2 and 3 (2 files on each DVD). In all DVDs, there are 2 files and they have similar names on all the DVDs. If you try to copy next DVD without renaming, your computer will give you option to merge them (and you do not want that). Once, all of them copied, rename the first file to its original name by taking out 1 from both files. Remember that during the process of updating, do not take out the key or stop it, as it may ask you DVD1 again for verification purpose. Insert the USB and it will prompt you for update. Insert the FSC code and it will start updating. Continue, till it ask for 2nd usb. Take out the USB, connect it to your laptop and rename those files to 1. And files with number 2, revert them to original file names by taking out 2 at the end of these. Since 1st and 3rd DVD will have numbers at the end of their files, therefore CIC will only identify the 2nd DVD. Continue and repeat the same method for DVD 3. It took me approx 40-45 minutes to do the job. All done and thanks to all of you who contributed to this thread. BIG QUESTION...has anybody downloaded the 2013 V2 maps?

What version do you have for maps matey?
IF you are not sure, can you kindly take a look after the update (under navigation) and post it here. I have gone for 2013 but been told that there is V2 now as well.

Yeah when i get around to doing the update i'll make sure i post a picture of the version under the options/about section...i'm guessing it's the latest one because i bought it myself from BMW Chigwell and it's not like they stock them therefore they had to order it in so i doubt it got out of date sitting on their shelves but will check for you once i get around to doing it.

Hey Sam,
I have the 2013 v2 and upgraded from v1. I can't say I noticed much difference except for satnav picking up some new roads in my area (and this is the prime reason for the update, otherwise I'd have held off). FYI I used the BMW original discs and a code from sierras, unfortunately the same code for the v1 would not work and therefore a new code was required. Cheers, Charlie |

I guess I am out of luck. I thought that FSC code which I used to update 2013 V1 can be used for V2. But as Charlie said, I'd require new code. To all those who are thinking of updating it, should go straight to V2 to save the money for 2 different FSC codes. Thanks guys. I guess I will leave it till 2014

I enquired at the dealership today about the process and cost of the maps update on a Business Edition (2009) car. Trust you are sitting down.
My understanding is that with the business edition models, the update is done through the glovebox USB rather than the CD (there is only a single slot and no DVD) Total cost to update the maps is £320 This comprises, £60 for a USB with the maps update on £160 for the required activation code Rest is labour charge (1/2 to 1 hour) They are not able to confirm if I would have Postcode search options following the update. Looks like I will be keeping the TomTom for a little longer. |

I'd like yo see a system where your phone is connected to the car not only for music and phone calls but for navigation too - that would be end of this rubbish, but also the end of a big earner for BMW! |
