Well, a piggy back code is a piggy back code. They detected that you tuned the car. Thats really all they need. If the tech was uber cool he may have just deleted it and continued on without noting it or really caring. He could have also noted that your car was tuned.
You should have a BT tool or at least a Peake scan tool if your running at 100% on a newer car. |

Sounds like they did you a favour and are turning a blind eye.
Since the HPFP failure is a known defect to BMW, chances are your dealer is going to get paid for the warranty work and there will be no investigation by the folks at head office back in Germany. Your fuel pump probably threw the codes necessary for replacement and that's all they need to justify the repair work to BMW. Let's not forget they are getting paid for doing this, so they have some self-interest here. But consider yourself lucky and get a code clearing tool like BT. The tuner codes are grounds for instant warranty void and this has been explicity communicated by BMW in their service bulletins. As long as the dealer didn't flag you, then you are not on the radar for future issues. Might want to bring that up kind of innocently somewhere in your conversation and see what they say. |

I wouldn't bring it up when you go in. It sounds like they did you a solid and you should just smile, nod, and enjoy the car when you get it back. If they dont mention it, you shouldn't either.

let me know if you need a BT i am in socal as well and can get you one. I think they will be cool about it but running the JB+ at 100% is risky on 91 octane and if you have not done the Bypass mod. Get the BT and if they for sure have not voided your warranty you should be ok. I dont think they did otherwise they would of said it.

Deny deny deny! I'm looking into the Peake scan tool since its half the price of a BT scanner and clears all the codes as well. Since I dont need data logging and all the other stuff the BT comes with, I'm not really seeing a downside to saving 50%

Be carefull with another scan tool. Most will not be able to read and delete BMW specific codes nor will they be able to get into the stability control module to see those codes. Make sure you do your homework on that one.

BAD NEWS FOR YOU...
You did not catch a lucky break, they will place a comment on your permanent file with BMWNA they says that you had this code and any future warranty work now will have to be approved by BMWNA... They will not void your entire warranty, and will continue to approve non powertrain warranty repairs and known issues such as HPFP... but if you ever blow your turbos or wastegates, they will not authorize that repair under warranty... Sorry man, you're not the first one to have this happen to them. |

You gotta pay to play. If you are paranoid, like you said, buy the BT.
I wonder how my 335 loaner cars that I used thew codes I have a JB+ floating around for them.

Did they record and input your JB+ faults into their system? Down the road, you don't want to go in for, lets say, new turbos and your car was flagged for quite sometime due to those JB+ codes.

You can't unless you ask them and they do not have to tell you anything..
It is just a comment on the computer that tells any dealership to contact BMWNA marketing team first to authorize any warranty work on this car... Chances are : yes you have been flagged .. Next time you are in for warranty work, you'll know for sure... |
