sub position in trunk/expert advice
I have mounted a slimline ported sub box in my e93 trunk:
Standing up it exceed the permitted folding roof height so it lay on its back. Does it really matter if the sub faces up at an anglke to the front or should the angle be to the back. Second question: I originally had two 12s in my coupe and a Kicker 1200 amp. Same amp driving the solo sub now, and I suspect it is too much power. Any recommendations for a good matching 12" for this amp (600 watts at 4 ohms).

I'm not an expert on car audio but I would say it doesn't matter position that much as long as it's a sub in a trunk. For sub applications in the home there are a few big things to keep in mind. Bass frequencies are able to bounce around the room and placing it in the corner will direct those traveling sound waves towards the center of the room. This area where more sound waves are directed is called a Hotspot. Moving the position of the sub will move the Hotspot. There is also areas where there will be far less bass as all the sound bouncing around the room, creates inverse frequencies (phasing) and sound cancels it's self out. This, if anything, is what you want to avoid.
It would be like having two sub drivers with one wired backwards.. The subs would be bumping like crazy but, very little sound because they cancel each other out. In a car, with a closed trunk it's not going to make a big difference like in a room. It will take trial and error to really find were you have the least phasing (inverse frequencies) and most people couldn't hear a difference if it smacked them in the face. You are much less likely to damage a sub with an over sized amp.

In the e93, do a sub install through the ski-pass, either IB or with an enclosure behind it, or don't do a sub at all.

Are you the sub police? I did it anyway and it works great. I can definitely hear the improvement in bass, especially with the top up. So neener neener boo boo.

I had the sub and amp, so my only cost was wiring a a cheap enclosure. Going IB will cost me new sub and a custom built mount. Maybe down the line....
