Help!! Pre-Lci Grill Removal

I looked all over the forum for something similar but found nothing so here goes.

I was removing the portion of the grills that are attached to the hood on my 2006 325i (pre-lci) in order to install my black performance grill. One of the screws is stripped or something from the inside and it wont seem to come out of the grill. I have tried various things like using WD-40 and a flat tip screw driver to wedge in there and try to get some grip but have had no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

If nothing works you will have to drill it out and buy a new screw.

I had that exact problem with 2 of the screws. It does that because the screw is stuck at the "nut" and the hole thing is spinning in that plastic hole. Hard to explain, but once you get it out you understand.

What you need to do is remove the "chrome" piece from the plastic piece.The part is 2 piece. If you can get one corner up from the that hole piece you can start to remove the the "chrome". It's only clipped to that plastic piece.

Once you get the "chrome" away, Then you can hold the nut in place with pliers and get the screw of. Also the plastic piece is very soft plastic, so you can broke it by twisting it. This way you should get the part away. Hope this helps.

Gosh, what a hassle! The LCI grilles are just held in with plastic clips that you press in and then gently remove the grille.

GRILL ATTACHED TO HOOD
there for 3 screws in each

I have this exact same problem. There is a gold threaded piece that the screw goes into. The gold piece is glued in to the plastic or some sort so the screw goes in and out. But the glue must've broken free and the gold piece now spins with the screw so it won't come out.

I believe the only way to get it out is to break it off and buy a new one. I haven't done it yet, but when the time comes, that's the way I plan on doing it.

The grill itself is only clipped in on the pre-lci but the pieces on the bonnet have 3 screws each which is what this thread is referring too.

hey, Thanks to everyone for helping me out with this issue. Everyones advice was valuable in helping me figure out the issue. It was exactly as mph_18 and MonacoblueE90 described it. Here are some photos of the finished project. BTW I also installed the CYBA red scoops while I was at it. They sound great and my car feels like it has a little more power.

No problem. How did you get it off?

I ended up having to just flex the chrome trip piece and just pry it off the piece. The bolt was just spinning inside it. I then used a plier to hold it in place and my drill to undo the screw.
