If thats the case and it has to be a BMW & X5 to pass the 6 er back well your only option is how much to pay and how long to get locked in?

If the X5 is to just get a car that is being used and no worse give or take off per month then one of the second hand ones seem the logical option for say 1 year. If this is say 2 or 3 years well how many miles are you going to do?

If you go 2nd hand extended warranty say £800 a year, my dad just had discs/pads all round £1k best quote, servicing, etc, etc. Add this all up and you may have another £2.5k over 2 years ..... say £200 per month and with your forces discount does the man maths work for a new one...... or last of the current model with a mega discount.

New one would be a financial disaster I think, even with big discount and I have no inclination to pay £600+ /month and be locked into an expensive finance package. Our V70 has 18000 miles on it after 3.5 years and has minimal tyre and brake wear, so getting a used car with newish tyres and brakes will mean I am unlikely to have to shell out for them. I would like to buy used with a 2 or 3 year BMW used warranty, that would be a good compromise.

I like to think BMW = reliable, unlike the horror stories that really put me off buying a 4 years + Land Rover Discovery.

Agree, finding the best 2nd hand one with that kind of annual miles done looks the best option (or sell the dogs.) If you had a new X5, Mini and Fiesta on the drive the depreciation/ monthly payment's are silly for the usage.

Hope you find a good one... let us know how you get on tomorrow.

I already have a buyer for the Fiesta representing almost zero cost to me over the last three months. And the Mini is quoted with 16% discount ..and it's a One (1.6) not a cooper so cheaper still .

Absolutely not....he is a one off. A fiesta Zetec does not compare with SLS/M6/911*.

I would hold off on the mini, new model out in a few months. It will be more economical and fresher, should help to push up the residuals again.

As regards the X5, go for the black SE if you need side steps as that's the only reason to choose an SE. If you don't need them then definently go for M Sport. The grey one looks better as the wheels are right and that extra price may disappear in negotiations.

Pete,

For me the space grey wins hands down, I am sure that £1k could be sorted. Less owners, better colour and spec and has the correct wheels. Black one is nice but I prefer the m sport. Would you have to take BMW hp??

I drove the silver one in Park Lane, interesting test drive! Not unsurprisingly I love the drive but the technology (old idrive) would be a challenge.

Park Lane wins the award for best dealership ever

They provided me with my 335i back in the day (2006/7 from memory). Thought they were decent enough back then but I wasn't so canny a buyer as I am now!! They managed to get me into a finance deal costing more than a lot of people's mortgages!!

Have to admit I would struggle with the old idrive system. Are there any facelifts with slightly higher mileage available in your budget??

To be fair to them they did offer a very cheap finance rate without being prompted. Really swish environment though.

Not sure where to go now though, post 2010 facelift X5 would be great but suspect not possible on my budget.

Would you trust anyone else to look after the 640d until its returned to BMW? assuming they paid the remaining lease payments, insured it etc. Would it make a deal a lot simpler?

Not sure that makes any difference Pjs. Returning the 640d is a no additional cost formality. In fact not returning it and trying to take out more BMW finance would probably not work.

Told Park Lane that I didn't want their TiAg X5, said I would continue to look for a post facelift car. Then this one appears on Park Lane website - September 2009 x35d MSport in Black Sapphire, with great spec (just missing pano roof), it is pre face lift but only has 15000 miles on it - it's a two owner London car -£28995...... Mmmmmm I enquired on two face lifted cars this morning in my price bracket but both had sold.

Is the nav on the facelift cars any different, I'm not so sure that it is , especially on the earlier facelift cars.

Just to add confusion , if you can get a car with adaptive drive its a great addition. Was seriously expensive at something like £2500 therefore quite rare. Softens the harsh M sport ride and totally eliminates body roll.

Nav is the new version in the facelift (extra buttons) and is far superior to the old system.

I do like that last one you have posted Pete, spec is awesome. You could always retro fit the new cic nav

This is another low miles one, but pre facelift. Lovely car and lots going for it but no xenons. I like the colour combo.

http://www.approved.bmw.co.uk/bmwuk/...rice_DESC|list

I am drawn to the one in park lane, having a really low miles car is appealing, trouble is I could hang on for ever and a day waiting for the right car to come along, it is my wife's daily transport and something tells me she couldn't give two shits about facelift/preface lift...cic Nav or Boggo Nav....she just wants something to get her dogs in, and it has to be big, automatic, 4x4, heated seats ........

They are effectively short cut buttons taking you straight to tel/Nav/radio/menu etc. it is a better system than the old one having had both and being spoilt in the 640.

My opinion Grey/Beige is not a 'regular' colour combo and will be hard to shift on second hand. There was a 6 month old x5 on the sytner website that sat for at least 6 months with this combo....
