Upsizing tyre profile

I have a LCI E90 with MV3 alloys. Tyre size are 225/40/18 and 255/35/18.

I am thinking to increase the tyre profile for increase comfort and I believe they will fill the arch better. So will be going for 225/45/18 and 255/40/18.

I have done a search and it seems a few people have done this.

No need for a co-signer...you've done your homework and found it should be an easy fit.

Go for it.

Only thing I don't know, will the ride comfort be noticeably better? Will the difference be obvious?

Depends on the tire you end up choosing. In most cases though, yes, "ride comfort" does increase.

I ran upsized tires on my wagon and I can echo the comfort side of it. These 225/45R18 & 255/40R18 ride just as comfortably as my 225/45R17. They look a bit big but otherwise seem to function fine.

Thanks, do you have any more pics? Any issues with rubbing?

Ride comfort will definitely improve, but one thing to consider is that increasing your overall rolling diameter will throw off your speedometer a bit. Increasing the rolling diameter will cause your speedometer to read low, so you will be travelling faster than it reads.

Not really. Factory speedo reads ~3% higher than actual vehicle speed. Any modern phone/GPS unit can tell you that. Therefore, increasing diameter size just a bit can actually make the speedo more accurate.

Apologies to bump this thread.

Has anyone got any more feedback on upsizing tyre profile?

I've seen a few E90 but there SE models. Concerned that I might get issue on my M Sport

Pics please. My car speedo reads 6.6% higher than actual when matched to phone GPS, doing 80 gives me 75. (205/55/16 winters instead of OE 225/45/17).

I have 18s and I want to run 225/45/18 all around (4% increase from OE) to cover up that speed gap. I paid for BimmerCode then found out they can't remove that (Corrected) from US car speedo.

Think 235/45/18 will fit up front? I'm running OE suspension. I plan to put on adjustable later to raise the suspension a tiny bit.

I run 235/40 on 8x18 et40/sport oem suspension and the clearance against plastic covers is not much... comfort/grip is better, speedo reads still a bit higher than gps...
