Is the cable just an ODB2 to USB cable? Are all ODB2 ports the same? I found this one on eBay: "KKL VAG-COM 409.1 OBD2 USB Cable Auto Scanner Diagnostic Tool"
Not a link, but if you search for this exact phrase it comes up as of today's date anyway... |

Hi Chriztofor,
Can you tell me how to register the battery for 330i E90? I just bought the same battery from Walmart (Everstart Maxx H8 for $123) and installed it into my E90 today. Starts up fine but I like to register it so it gets charged the right way. Thanks! Theo |

Almost 3 years no coding no cabling no softwaring and a whole lot of walmart H8ing. Car parked outside so its more corrosive to the connections. Works great! one thing i did notice is that the halo's dont cum on when i unlock on the fob. This happened after i swapped the battery...maybe cause i didnt register it? oh wells.

I installed a MAXX H8 in my wife's 2011 335i E90 April 2015 and had it programmed by an Indie. Battery was dead by April 2016 and replaced with OEM.

this AM, I euthanized my 4yr 4mth Everstart MAXX as it was starting to lose CCA. Still cranked okay but planning some long distance travel and thought it had a good run.
Replaced with Advance Auto Duralast Gold 49/H8, was around $115 with taxes and $40 off online coupon. edit: and not to brag lol but also got a speed perks coupon for $20 off my next $50 purchase, as part of the deal. I may take a flyer on their coated rotors. |

Hi Chriztofor, Thanks for your suggestions and info. I purchased a cable from ************** and uploaded their bmwlogger software.
Ran the registration and it happened in 1 second! Almost feel like nothing happened. But I verified that the cable was recognized and the connection to the OBD port was verified as well. The car started normally after that. Didn't feel any difference at all. But at least now it's registered. Peace of mind at last! |

With the Carly app you can choose between AGM and flooded type of battery when registering and MAXX is a flooded battery, so there you go!
Working well for over a year on my 2009 328i Coupe! |

replaced battery in 2014 with walmart Maxx H-8. Still running great 2 years later. I reprogrammed it with BavTech tool.
No issues. At $110 vs. $300 for OEM, I rather replace it every 3 years for $110 than pay $300 for OEM that lasts only 5 years. |

Still on OEM battery. 335i build in March 2008. On my VW 2.0t lasted 9y and 10m. A lot of variables to factor in.

my sons 2003 Msport 540i MaxxH8 just bit the dust, 3 years and 3 months after install with the brutal AZ summers, it was not "registered", worked just fine
3 years is all you can expect from any battery here in the Phoenix area ... $109.96 in March 2013 EDIT: battery was fine, starter bit the dust ... Last edited by al8apex; 10-01-2016 at 04:06 AM.. |

Now we call all debate how much longer it could have lasted if it had been registered. :-) Although, I don't think that 3 years is all that bad for 1/3 of the price.

e39 didn't have that system, started with e60. I'm sure there are batteries lasting twice that long in hot climate. Again, a lot of factors to be considered.

I see several people mentioning great success with batteries other than OEM. I switched my battery as well through an indie shop and had everything coded, I assume.
I have about 2 months on the battery, and so far I've noticed that the first start of the day is a strong one. But, if I happen to go to the store or any short drive and stop, the next crank is a bit weak. Sometimes even a pause during the starting process. I just took it to the dealer for an oil change and to bring up an AC issue to them and they said they cannot do any diagnostics without an OEM battery because any number of issues could be because the battery is aftermarket. |

I totally agree with you. But because they have the magic wording in their warranties and policies, that's when they can say one is better than the other. It sucks because I wish more common sense was used. The materials for the batteries still come from the same place on the planet...
