tailgate hinge - new hinge off eBay, £50 and £40 fitting.

Will give it a suspension check over and 4 wheel alignment when I can do without it for a week or so.,

All good for January, although the 35i hasn't had much use other than a once the week round trip of 25 miles for the weekly shop, it fire's up at the first press of the start button despite the lack of use & recent cold weather.

£500 for new rear shocks, top & bottom mounts, a couple of bushes, springs, spring pads, and auxiliary belt inc labour. Rides really sweet again and no squeaky belt on start up. I love this car.

A bit late but, no issues or expenses other than fuel during February.

I don't know where this reputation for unreliability of the N54 35i comes from

Got mine back from PMP yesterday.

Total £3000. 1600 from garage and i decided to change the injectors as well. Had no problems with the old ones, but its for piece of mind, heh.

-Turbo rebuild with new cores
-Walnut blast
-Wastegate's
-Rocker Cover Gasket (again, had it done 20k ago)
-Oil filter housing
-Coolant flush
-Fitted Index 12 injectors
-Oil/filter
-New oxygen sensor

Was pleaseantly surprised to see no oil in the intercooler, was dry as a bone.

Wasn't expecting the rocker cover and oil filter housing, but on inspection they were leaking so glad they were sorted as well.

Car felt amazing on the way home. Feels faster. Im gonna have to get some times done with dragy. Def runs better, and revs smoother and idles better.

The inlets were a mess, clogged up, so the walnut blasting is a must.

Car is on 72k.

About $3500 in parts...
Didn’t need to but
New turbos because I am tired of wastegate rattle.
While I am there;
Inlets, motor mounts, trans mounts, oil pan gasket and bolts, and just because, m3 control arms for front and rear.

Mine doesn't cost me anything other than modding it, which admittedly I could spend nothing on it.
Maintenance wise I keep mine down by simply not driving it

No cars are "cheap" the wonderful HMG sees to that!
Some are less expensive than others is probably more appropriate.
But hey it is your money and you can spend it on what you want!
I'm considering a Bentley (the car not the manual ) which is not cheap either but the main constraint is that I will need to build an extension to my garage as the 335i only has 4 inches of clearance at each end!

Wow, some big numbers there. Makes my M3 figures look reasonable

Booked the M3 in for rod bearings replacement for June.

Mine could of been half that, i just wanted the peace of mind, and ive come into some cash and decided im keeping the car for years to come so made sense.

But yeah a N54 probly ain't much cheaper than a M3.

I do find its getting harder justifing to myself spending money on something that's constantly decreasing in value though. I suspect that if I was to add up all the receipts for money's spent over my 4 years of ownership it would be many thousands of pounds. I just don't want to upset myself by adding them all up

There's always something that needs or could do with being sorted. Mine could do with a wheel refurb, the drivers door needs repairing the missus over estimated her ability to get through a gap & a couple of weeks later the same door was hit by a shopping trolley & that was a couple of years ago! The bonnets covered in stone chips & needs a repaint & I would like to fit a charge pipe & some bovs.

Unfortunately I enjoy driving & when you do happen to come upon a nice bit of road & are able to have a bit of a special drive, the feeling my 335i gives me & the smile it puts upon my face is the reason I put up with it. I do find myself thinking more often nowadays that it must be nice to be one of those people that are indifferent to cars & happily drive around in something dull & cheap to run & have no interest in performance

I totally agree!!!!

I bought MY 2006 (N54) 335i from a private owner in 2016. Since owning it, I've had driver side front spring snap and perforate the tyre, water pump go next, cracked radiator hose, cracked radiator (itself), and several several other ailments. And I dare not try and total up the cost!!!

With the 335i for me it's been a labour of pure LOVE for the sheer delight it generates - when it's running good that is!!

Right now though, the car is completely dead after I got limp mode on all systems in October 2019 ('failure' lights would come on one after the other - ABS failure, Airbag failure, gearbox failure - you get the picture - ending with "water pump failed") after which the car would be stuck in 6th gear and the battery would drain once parked.

Car went into an Indy in West Drayton recommended by a friend, in Feb 2020 and got abandoned by the Indy after changing the timing belt in March. Finally got car back last week with parts missing, car completely dead - unresponsive.

But I'm hoping to stiill get it FIXED!!!!

Yes I know I'm mad. And I might be the only one THIS mad...

Help me somebody

Where does the timing belt go on an N54???

Perhaps that's why the car doesn't run

Almost a year since my last addition to this thread and a year of ownership just gone.

Vital work - 1 ignition coil £20

Also vital but not the cars fault - bent a rim and destroyed a tyre, over £300 although the council should pay but they haven`t looked at it yet and say it can be up to 6 months before they do, its been 3 already.

Just doing the OPG wasn`t vital but gave me an excuse to install catless DPs and a FMIC - MTC DP`s £150 (new 2nd hand) - Wagner evo 2 comp £250 (2nd hand) and OPG kit from bmw £60, engine support bar £60 - New Oil and filter £55

Oh and brake pads all round although haven`t checked if the rears are needed - £143 plus sensor for front £10

Don`t talk to me about the days of my life I lost trying to get those damn catless DP`s in!!!

£750 (assuming the council will refund the wheel and tyre) for the year with some serious upgrades for me to enjoy going forwards

Last edited by Chapperss; 08-25-2021 at 01:45 PM.. Reason: forgot the oil and filter

So that's £1050 then!

Highways departments are not obliged to provide billiard tables for us to drive on. If you drive down a pot hole it is your action that caused the damage and not the pot hole which didn't move so you are at fault.
We cannot even get the grass cut at the entry to roundabouts making them blind on the approach or line markings repainted around here never mind the holy grail of an in tact road surface!
