Connecting the adapter
I hope I am not showing my ignorance, but I need to know whether I am connecting the USB-Ethernet adapter correctly. I have a E87 123d 2011 which has a retrofitted idrive, the usb port is in the armrest.
this is how i have connected the adaptor - adapter usb plug into laptop - j45 to usb into adapter and lastly usb into car. See photo attached. I am now ordering my 4th adapter, enet, cheap USB-ethernet adapter, and adapter with ax77882A chip, all don't work. Have now ordered one with a ax88772 chip. I have not been able to get connection with any of the above. One last question, are there some cars that just can't be cracked? My apologies if i have missed the obvious. |

You need to use the USB port in the glovebox, not the armrest. If you still have trouble try using a computer with ethernet so that you don't need that adapter.

No usb in glove-box, which poses the question, can I fit one.
I have noticed on ebay one can buy usb cables, I have also read that some cars came fitted with both and some with only the armrest usb. I did insert a usb drive with new maps into the armrest usb, and the unit read it and asked for fsc code. I will try and connect directly into my laptops ethernet connection (nothing ventured, nothing gained) and will pull out the idrive this weekend and see if I can plug in a glove-box usb lead. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. |

If your USB port recognizes map updates than it should be the correct one for ethernet access. The other port provides access to phones and MP3 pen drives thru the Combox. Also note that you need the exact right USB-Ethernet converter, not just something similar. Lastly, I believe there are complications with FSC codes on retrofitted CIC's due to the VIN number difference.

Hopefully the new adapter will be correct, asix ax88772 chip as per an earlier post. We'll see. I'll take the unit out this weekend and have a look and then go from there. I'll also troll the internet to see if someone has an answer.
Luckily I have no time constraints so I'll just chip away at it and see if I can crack it. If anyone has any experience with a retrofit unit, feel free to advise, it'll be much appreciated. If I learn something I'll add to the post. |

My cic.08 revision didn't work with the USB ethernet adapter. I ended up having to wire to the ethernet wires on the back of the CIC directly. Another point of data is that the I couldn't update maps with CIC.08 via USB either. Maybe you have an older CIC software like I do that doesn't fully support that USB port?
The same USB ethernet adapter worked in another car with CIC.16... I have the D-Link one though. |

Thanks for your input, I'm just waiting for the new USB adaptor, if that doesn't work I'll explore further. I will also open her up, time permitting, and check for an emulator.
Hoping this weekend. Cheers. |

I have made a small amount of progress, the asix ax88772 chip network adapter at least sees the CIC, although it does not recognize it. My network adapter icon does not have the dreaded red cross next to it. But I have tried all the settings listed in this post, and it won't connect. Have also tried tfpd64 but got no response, albeit once when it only gave me one IP address that was the same as the adapter. I'm not sure what I did to get that.
Next move, open her up. Smallseafishie, can you point me in the direction of the wiring diagram in case I need to do the same as you. I will also do the obligatory search. |

OK, have opened her up and found a Bimmerretrofit CAN module attached. See photo's. The module only seems to have the camera options checked and not the nav.
Anyone know what this means for me? |

Solved
Finally got it done.
NB: this might sound stupid but make sure that the USB ethernet adapter is plugged into the car, ethernet cable into your laptop. DUH! don't know why I tried to do it the other way round. I could not make Firefox work, but used winscp, once I downloaded the files I could generate the codes, no problem. Unfortunately the codes did not work as I discovered my CIC was script activated. In the end I had to us FStool, but not before a few issues. FStool did not see the donor vin, which was strange, but with a little help from Pl@y3r from another forum. I had to use FStool to first set vin and then check FSC and that forced the CIC to use donor vin and accept codes. A mission but well worth it. |

I came across the same problem on my 2009 E60. I don't have port 21 listening on my CIC but I can telnet to it on post 23. Tried looking up internet for few days but no luck. I then came up with an idea of using telnet and usb to extract the file and it worked! This is what I did to get hold of the file. - log on using telnet - cd /mnt - ls - note down the list - pop in the any usb drive in the glove box and wait for few secs - ls - notice the new folder which is your usb drive - cd <your usb folder> - run the following command - cp -c /HBpersistence/normal/generalPersistencyData_DiagnosticSWTController /mnt/<your usb folder> You now have your file on your USB drive. Follow the usual steps to extract FSC code from this file and enjoy updating your maps. I hope this helps someone. E60 2009 CIC 1b file FSC code telnet |

I was able to get a 1b file out but when I generate the code the car does not accept it?! the code looks good like it should work but no go the one odd thing is that there is no serial number in the 1b file attaching 1b file for the gurus to have a peak Last edited by Papa Smurf; 12-29-2017 at 09:33 AM.. Papa Smurf Your 1B file appears to be pulled correctly, except that the VIN is "1234567"
If you don't have a retrofit, the VIN should match the last 7 digits from your vehicle. If you provide your VIN (and the rest of the file was pulled correctly) I can generate an FSC for your vehicle. Hi! I have a problem with my E81. I downloaded the file, changed the file in HxD. The fact that the generated code is incorrect. Below is the downloaded file and the VIN number VL18255, map Premium 2018-1.

Use a DHCP server on your laptop and get the CIC to connect that way.

Note that your VIN is showing up as 1234567. If you don't have a retrofit CIC, this is likely incorrect, and should match your vehicle VIN. You can use the linked keygen to create your keys: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1453464 Europe 2018-1 1234567: VCNMF5F75DBHUABIAAWQ Paul666 EDIT: Your generalPersistencyData has a number of segments for VIN 1234567, but does have two segments for VL18255, which is quite odd. I've uploaded a different fsc file for VL18255 Europe 2018-1 VL18255: 43YMNRN55LR34ABIAAWQ Last edited by Jagaer; 01-25-2018 at 06:22 AM.. |

Get DHCP setup and the cable plugged in before you even start the car.

Had an issue when attempting to do this on my car.
Just got my ENET adapter in the mail today, I hooked it up and downloaded the 1B file just fine. I deleted everything before the 1B section with HxD, everything after the 3F section, and saved it to a file which was 319 bytes. Ran FSC.exe with CMD and generated the text file. Went to go run it in my car, and it tells me it is incorrect. Anyone want to double check my work? VIN A948539. EDIT: Just kidding... letter O not zeros in my code. Lol. @kwseattle The hex file you generated looks good.
For Premium North America 2018-1: 7EBTZYMRKUN22ABNAAWQ You can load your hex file in the following generator and try for yourself: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1453464 |
