I have a 335xi, just wondering if anyone has a good method of cleaning the soot from the ends and also what a good product may be to shine them up?

I used eagle 1's polishing wad. First cleaned it with dish soap and then hit it with the wad. Its does an amazing job. Best part, find it at walmart. A little of the wad goes a very long way

simple green and a crappy rag should do the trick, for baked on problems, use a brass brush and it'll be sparkling like new.

I also use P21s polishing soap and it does a good job. I never put in the elbow grease to get them 100% clean, and some people say to use #0000 steel wool on the insides to really get them spotless. But my car isn't a Concours winner

if i had a dollar for every one of these threads. Best way to get them spotless: purchase a new catback and replace and BAM! New tips ^_^

simple green and scoth-brite pad works for me. Just a timely procedure for something that is going to turn black the second i step on it

The tips can usually be cleaned with a good metal polish (ie P21S Finish Restorer). Just wipe it on with medium pressure and a soft cloth and it should have an incredible shine. dont waste your money on these products. I use Blue magic polish which is around 4 bucks. I have been using that for years. I started using that on my ducati exhaust tips and i later started using it on ANY aluminum,titanium. I even use it to polish control arms on my n55. im just a clean freak like that i like everything from top to bottom to shine. It is completely! safe and it literally does the job.

Heres how to use Blue Magic Polish:

1. Put on latex gloves
2. Get a finger tip amount and start rubbing the area you want to polish ie(tips, calipers, etc).
3. Using a paper towel or any soft cloth, wipe until the polish and dirt is gone.
4. Re apply as needed until all dirt/grease is gone
5. Enjoy the shine!

+1 for eagle one wadding polish. Just don't let your SO try it on her copper bottomed pots and pans, or you'll have to buy a new tin.

Edit: since I just ran my car through the car wash this morning (yeah, I know, it really needs a detail but I don't have the time... just cleaning up little bits and pieces as I can) this thread made me go out and polish my exhaust tips... much better!

Question: it appears that the rolled edge of my tips was painted black. (335i, non-S) was that factory? Doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, just curious. I originally thought that it was exhaust carbon so I started wiping it with acetone, it's still about half there. Not sure if I should strip it all off or touch it up, and that's more of a "which do I think will look better" kind of decision.
