HOLY CRAPPOLA!
What ever happened with the situation mate? Reminds me of the time my fuse box behind the glove compartment got burn out and got so hot it melted and welded the top part of the box onto the metal of the car and burn out all my wiring...My baby was DEAD for one month till BMW finally found out what the problem was. Cost me a sweet 2k to fix. Worst month of my life I think; being car-less sucks!

And if you had a meth kit, the poor meth kit would have taken all the blame.
Scary to see stuff like this, hope everything worked out for you in the end.

This happened to me this afternoon. My 2009 335d lost power, I pulled over, and white smoke came out from beneath the hood. I opened the car hood and saw flame, got my belongings out, and called the fire department.
My car is totaled. It was insured and was also still under warranty. The last people under the hood was the dealership when they inspected the car four weeks ago. I'm OK and glad you're OK. Did BMW ever find out what went wrong? Did they help you in any way in getting a replacement? |

There is a bug with at least the e90 sedan where all the doors and windows can cease to operate, even trying to open the doors from the inside will not work, except for the driver side door..just a bug mind you...a dangerous bug! if coupled with a fire and full occupancy. I and others have made official complaints to the NHTSA to get an investigation launched. Nothing has come of it. I have experienced this on two occasions once due to the bug and another due to a mechanical failure of my door lock that forced me to get in and out of my car from the passenger side..The first car I have ever experienced such issues with..if the small pin lock on the door drops and the power goes there exists the possibility that pulling on the door latch twice might not open the door..and its impossible to try and pull up the door lock bolt pin thingy..only recourse would be to bust open windows and get people out that way. |

That's crazy, glad you got out with all your stuff. Hope the insurance company gives you enough for a full replacement. |

Guys - apologies about not keeping you updated. I totally forgot about this post.
Anyway... My insurance company have rejected my claim last week. It has taken them 5 months to investigate and they came back with "it was an overheating issue". Apparently a forensics report said the car was driving hard at the time and based on that they will not pay out. I've commenced litigation against them as of Monday this week. In regards to BMW, currently at a stumble! They are not playing ball whatsoever and are telling me to take it up with my insurance even after explaining that they rejected the claim. My car was manufactured in 2010 and barely covered 17,000 miles - so it's surely covered by warranty. How do I approach BMW about this? I keep being routed to a call centre for EU customer services and they aren't much help at all! Thank you in advance. |

whaatttt??? Shame on your insurance, and shame on BMW! I would most certainly explore every avenue to ensure that you get compensated for the car AND the inconveniences.

Are you able to obtain their report to assess how they came to such a conclusion? If they were able to poll the ECU, and it provides verbose & extensive logging to support their conclusion, then you are in for a hard battle with insurance (depending on how your policy is written). BMW on the other hand, should be fully vested in this and want to know what went down with situation. Especially if your car was stock. Kind of surprised your insurance company won't pay out and pursue BMW themselves...

I would sue both insurance as BMW under a theory of joint and several liability in that they are each responsible and can battle share the damages between themselves. |
