Car is back and running good with new actuator arms and reprogrammed with the wastegate retrofit option. No rattle for now.
However after doing a few 4th gear roll-ons in a tunnel, the turbos dont start whistling loudly until about 1900rpms? Previously it was about 1500? DCT was off. Does it take a while to re-adapt?

If it ain't broke
I'm going in for my fourth HPP (HPFP) on Monday.
No symptoms this time, just getting the new upgraded part and software for the recall. This dealership knows their stuff so I'll report back on driveability. Car currently has the "no lag but rattles" software tweak. Drives great. No aftermarket tunes.

Recall recommended
Quote:
Quick history: I bought the car with 29k miles and it already had one new pump. I started having long cranks and got it replaced two years ago and had the software updated with the first good post-lag software. Thought all was good with the world. Then got the recall in the mail and checked that it is a new part number. Took my chances. Oh and it has the MSD80 ECU. I thought I wasn't having symptoms of a bad pump before, but now that I the new part number and latest software update (WITH ORIGINAL WASTEGATE OPERATION OPTION ENABLED) I think I was just getting used to the poor driveability. Before yesterday's upgrade, I had actually stalled the car a few times off a stoplight and now think that the pump/software may have had some role in that. Until today, backing into my garage using just the clutch (very lightly disengaging without using the gas) would cause crazy diesel like rattle and rpms would dip drastically. Neighbors not impressed for sure. New behavior is MUCH better. Impressions after latest Pump and Software recall: MUCH better off-idle response from the car. It used to have a slight hesitation either from a standing start or from cruising at idle. The power is there right from the start now. I swear I can hear the turbos whistling more than the used to. Probably my imagination after driving the bare bones 328 slushbox loaner for the day. That car needs a manual tranny and an exhaust. Too quiet. But I digress... Any who, even with the "I don't care about wastegate rattle give me boost and give it NOW" option enabled in the latest software there is less diesel clatter when backing into the garage. Engine just sounds better somehow. Somehow peppier and smoother. Even shifting seems smoother with the manual. Maybe it's still adapting? Long trip this weekend so I'll report back. For the record I have never had the super-lag software installed so I don't have a good baseline. I also have the car completely 100% stock (save for baby seat ) and haven't ridden in or driven a modded N54 so I can't speak to that either. I know that slope is slippery and have avoided it thus far...

I know I'll probably get yelled at as this has probably been asked a ton of times before, but I can't read through 223 pages of this thread
I recently picked up a 2007 335i with 19k miles. The person I bought the car from had an appointment with BMW to get the HPFP replaced, but I bought it before he was able to bring it in. So the question is, should I get the HPFP replaced and worry about my computer software getting upgraded (I have no idea what I currently have), or should I just wait to get it fixed if/when it goes? EDIT: Build date 2/07 Thanks, Scottie

very late in the game here, way too much to read and understand, how I should approach my dealer. This is my first BMW after years and years of being brand loyal to Honda.
last week purchased a 2008 335i auto, build date 10/2007, has 49K on it. noticed a bit of delay in acceleration from a stand still and asked to look into it so I've had it less than a week, door locks are playing tricks, no problem I have an appointment for that, I mentioned the lag issue, and they said they would reset the user memory or something like that. The delay in acceleration is driving me nuts already, you can barely drive through a parking lot without having all or nothing. having read through countless threads on this issue, I don;t even know what to ask, what update version to ask for, if there's one out there that would remedy the problem, or is a hardware problem?? can somebody please address my concerns??? much appreciated. also my ipod y cable USB/Aux doesn;t work with any of my 3 iphones/ipods or with a USB stick..I have 2 months of factory warranty before aftermarket warranty takes place |

If you never use the physical key to open the driver door where the master control is located, the door lock contacts will get gunked up over time and give trouble. Sometimes it's unlocking the car, maybe even rolling down all the windows and opening the sun roof when you aren't anywhere within range ... The fix for that is to simply use the manual key once in a while to open/lock the driver's door to exercise the mechanism in order to keep things shiny and clear in there. A couple of times a year seems to do it where I live. |

TT3 iN NyC thanks, but I already have a tune(but its not yours). I was mainly asking on behalf of the 135i guys with N54/N55 engines. Seems there are an awful lot of unhappy people when they get their car's back from BMW after a SW update.

If you have say a cobb tune, will it not totally override any BMW software updates making this issue irrelevant? Or do the bmw updates somehow affect your tune after you go back and re-install the tune after a bmw update?

The tunes only override the specific areas of the software that they need to use to achieve their results. If the BMW software update is newer than the tune then there is a chance that the tune may not override the BMW software. This would happen if BMW were trying to block tunes and put in new safeguards(this is just an example and I am not saying that they have) In the past it has been said that they relocate certain code to other areas in order to hide them.
