In my opinion, forget the paint. After two times, once including many coats of UV protectant clear, the red fades to like pinkish after a month or two. This was with the Krylon paint and in Florida though.
Ended up getting some cheap red vinyl tint off eBay and it looks pretty good.

For this DIY im gonna go a little lazy on the masking.

I think im gonna just tape off the top contour line of the white area and then paint.
in other words, i want to leave the left and right edges white as well, it will be a solid line of clear rather than having red surround it.

A few tips from someone who just tried this and made some easily avoidable mistakes:

- If possible, remove tails from the body before painting. if not possible, or you're just too lazy like i am, COVER THE AREA around your tails well. By this i mean at least 1-2 feet in each direction of where you're painting. I just spent the last 30 min removing spots and splatter off of my rear bumper....

3+ coats of VHT Nightshades.

Still drying, needs some wet sanding and maybe a clear coat afterwards.

My favourite mod, from all of the cars that I've owned. Simply due to cost. Can't beat $19 CAD at Canadian Tire.

Hey guys sorry to gravedig an old thread but I've ran into a problem.

I can't find anywhere to buy VHT Niteshades in the UK. It also seems like nowhere will post to the UK unless I pay $80+. Could somebody help me out?

I've found this on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Colormaster...70_&dpSrc=srch would it be the correct colour?

I'm not sure but my application is starting to fade a bit so I will need to protect it from UV. If you can find red tint vinyl from a local shop it will be easier to work with and remove/reapply later on.
