Got the letter too. If my car suddenly bursts into flames, do I get full $ back?

My car's air stopped working last week because of this recall. Took it in and there you have it, the wiring is frayed and about to spark causing a fire.. and they don't have the part and don't know when they'll have it.. However they made me sign a waiver that the car will be parked and not driven until they receive notice of a part or fix for it, and they'll provide me with a rental until that time comes.. so....

Made You?... what would be the consequence of not signing out of curiosity? It seems to be a really unreasonable expectation if they are not providing a rental

Call several different dealers around your area and ask if they have the parts. I just got the airbag recall done yesterday but I had to call them and ask if they had the part.

Hey Marmit2017, I think from the title of the thread everyone here is in Canada but I wanna make sure you are as well. My car did the exact same thing last friday and no heat since then. If you are in Canada that would give me hope that when I drop by the dealer tomorrow they will do the same for me and provide a rental until they get their act together!

Thanks!

I'm in the US, but that doesn't matter. BMW NA will provide the car, so it doesn't matter if it's the United States or Canada, so they should provide you with a rental. Also, DONT DRIVE YOUR CAR!!! Someone with the exact same symptoms as you and I kept driving for two days after this happened and his car caught on fire. If you are going to drive it just make sure your air stays off.

Well they didn't "make me" but it was either I drive around with no heat, waiting for the car to catch on fire, or get a rental car while they "find a fix". And btw, according to BMW NA they don't have a remedy for it. So it's not that they don't have enough parts, but that they don't have ANY. While they did give me a nice rental car, I was bummed bc I had put up my car for sale and obv I can't sell it for the time being..

BMW of North America (BMW USA) and BMW Canada Inc are two different entities and have different protocols in how they handle recalls.

It is true that BMW NA are offering rental vehicles but BMW Canada thus far have not been offering the same solution.

Anyone had their repair done yet for this recall?
Half way through the winter my heater started ignoring the heater setting and kicked out uncomfortably hot air. This happened every time for several days until I read up on this issue. Was not happy driving in the cold
Now that summer is fast approaching I can't even use the air con.
My SA was sympathetic but could not give me an update on when they will get their parts in.

I don't think they even have a solution for it yet. I had my car in this morning for a HPFP. The SA said that there is an open Recall for it on mine, i asked if they could repair it she had said there was no fix yet.

Booked an appointment a couple weeks ago for the end of June since that was the earliest, got a call Monday saying they are cancelling my appointment and adding my name to a list since they don't have any parts

How does something like that work for insurance though? An active recall but can't get into the dealership for replacement, car burns.. who is at fault?
