And the N54 won 2012 Engine of the Year for 2.5L - 3.0L over the N55. Go figure.

That is awesome news! Kudos to BMW for doing the right thing by the customer. It took them a while, but that is good customer service!

Engine of the year has absolutely nothing to do with reliability since brand new engines win this award all the time and there is no way in knowing the reliability of a brand new engine. With that said, the N55 does have better emissions and is more economical than the N54. I guess the judges just favor the way the N54 kicks you in the pants

N55 is superior to the N54 in every way except tuning ability to unsafe levels. Automobile Mag did a dyno test between the two and the N55 puts out more torque("kick in the pants") then the N54 while the N54 put out more horsepower.

So, it's a wash in terms of performance. N55 is also a more fuel efficient engine due to the addition of Valvetronic and implementing a single twin-scroll turbocharger. The judges were misinformed

This seems to also include an alignment if you have an E71?

That seems odd, no?

So here is a question for you guys....

Went last year to dealer to complain about noise. It turns out it's waste gate/turbos, but they were not covered under the CPO. I said ok, can't afford to change it just yet. Last year i had 73K-74K miles on the car. Now i have 88K and still the noise. Do you guys think they will honor it?

I know my dad's N54 equipped 535xi has already had the turbo replacements due to waste gates and he had paid out of pocket. Wonder if he can file some sort of claim with BMW Canada and get his money back now?
Extended warranty only applies to U.S. (50 states).

I can't imagine that BMW Canada has much of a leg to stand on given the outcome in the US.

I would imagine that sending them a letter requesting a refund along with your official repair bill/diagnosis by qualified mechanic and a copy of the service bulletin should cause them to provide a refund for a previous repair. If you have the problem currently, you would think that a similar approach would lead them to cover this.

The precedent has been set.

Yes, you are obviously well informed and clearly know more than even the M division that chose the N54 to power their pet project last year.

If your 335is is one of the MYs indicated, I would assume so. Best to check w/ your SA.
