towhook cover table

Hi e90post,

I'm about to buy a towhook cover for my E93 from the internet and I was wondering what's the point of this strange table on the back of each towhook cover. They seem to vary piece from piece. Does anyone know what this table and the dots on it signify? It's a super strange question (I only ask super strange questions anyway ), but I'd like to get the right part.

Something molded there from the factory. Maybe someone else has more information.

I truly doubt that mark has anything to do with the part number. I would guess that it is the date code / part line information from the injection / forming plant. They typically mold in the date number and the manufacturing line number or batch number. This helps them trace defective parts, if a defect shows up, to the correct line / batch.

Oh, okay. So the last dot in the grid (11/12) is the production date?

The cover is most likely injection molded. That table is used for statistical quality control purposes to track the production use of the injection mold. It looks like the last use was December 2011. At some point the mold will lose tolerance. The left column is the year (starting in 2005) and the top row is the month. It has nothing to do with the part number.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

So it's production date? The broken cover from my 1/2008 BMW has the last dot on 8/2007.
