DIY: Parking Brake Plate Replacement: Without removing hub
Long story short; I messed up the plate that holds the parking brake pads. It is a single piece which is held by 4 bolts behind the wheel hub. The proper way to replace this $11 to pull the hub and the bearing which is a bit ridiculous.
I used metal snips and dremel to get the old one out. I cut the new plate in half using a metal saw, filed the rough edges and applied a few coats of satin black on either side. The metal is thick and sturdy enough to support the pads since there are two bolts holding each half. I also replaced the brake shoes and the springs on both sides while I was there. Finally, I adjusted the parking brake. It works great. Last edited by apirumann; 04-13-2021 at 03:18 PM.. |

Pics might help.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I know I'm late to this. I'm about to do this to my backing plate as well, did you have any issues with it in the long run. I'm worried about the cut edges peeling up and hitting the drum brakes like it does now when driving.
