No, my car pulls in 1st, but it doesn't feel like the turbos are doing much of the work until about 2800-3000 rpm. My feeling is, in 1st gear, I'm using only the HP of the engine without turbo help. (if that makes sense), then 2nd gear ( my fav gear by the way) I'm back in my seat......

That's the main rub, as far as I am concerned. Marketed as no lag, and a change was made, so now there is a detuned, laggy car.

Tell you what--the car I test drove (pre v81/29.2) sure as hell didn't feel like this. And that is what I based my buying decision on. Bait and switch for sure.....

Well, I found out from my SA that I have 30.0.2 in my car. It's a 6mt and it lags. It also does something new and fun. When starting the car, it it shakes. Hard to explain but it is a violent startup. Hopefully Monday things will get better when I get my Dinan

Don't you think you should understand and correct the violent shaking issue before you add a ton more HP and torque?

High pressure fuel pump might be the issue. Theres a service bulletin about it.

Can cause half power issues, slow starts and shakes.

Are you saying that the HPFP might be the source of my long starts AND MY LAG?

Quisp, I have the 30.0.2 and with the Dinan flash, all issues are resolved. I guess you'll be one of the few actually looking forward to Monday

I was, now looking forward to Thursday. Tulsa wont do it so I am going to Nashville. Knid of a drag, Tulsa was only 3.5 hours, Nashville is about 5.25 so the day got a bit longer. The ride back will be a good one to test out the upgrade.
Good to know the flash takes care of all that, I was hoping that was going to happen.

Anyone from DC/MD/VA/PA/WV/DE/NJ?

wow that is crazy that you have to drive 5+ hours to get your car to work.

I am wondering. Is there anyone on here from the DC area (or neighboring states within a couple hours) who has what you believe to be a NON-lag 335i? If so, I'd like to get together and compare our cars. I'd prefer a pre-29.2 vehicle, but I'm also interested in driving one of these v29.2/v30 cars that people say has no lag.

Mine is a 6MT with sport, premium, v29.2, and lag, so that would be best for comparison purposes. I'd be willing to meet in the middle if it's not too far.

I posted this in another thread but here it is again for those who may not have seen it.

For the record, sometimes I think my car feels a little more laggy than it did before but most of the time I don't think so. I always noticed the lag even before V30.0 (my previous car was a CTS-V w/ 400HP LS6 V8).
Someone will probably find a reason to flame me for this, because of something I'm obviously missing, or because of the huge images, but anyway check out these two freeze frames of your first gear.

Yes, a lot of things could cause the difference here, such as the speed with which you floored the pedal, but here are some things I notice, never mind the apparently extended hiccup around 2000 RPM in v30:

Assuming you had v24 before, I'll call it that.

- v24 going as fast or faster at lower RPM
- v24 sucking hotter air (64 degrees vs 56 degrees)
- v24 running with more weight (more fuel)
- v24 engine running cooler

You would think the same car, performing at its normal levels, with the same type of launch, would actually perform better in the second condition, but it performs worse. Yes, there is a lot of room for error down <10MPH and <2000RPM, but that is where we are all noticing the differences, and it's much bigger for some of us. It could be nothing, just something I noticed...

BTW, do you have NAV and/or iDrive?

I got a 6MT, so I think it affects both AT/MT.

Same here. After the 29.2 update, engine sounds more muted and substantial lag til 3k or so, particularly noticeable in 1st gear.

I have the V81 DME and you can add me to the "lag list". From a stop, I push the gas and very little happens unless I go further than 1/3 throttle. It feels like it starts off on 2 cylinders with the other 4 deactivated.

Sad to say but I keep the 335i in the garage and drive my '08 GTI 4door DSG +GIAC to work instead because it actually drives better, with better throttle response.

The Dinan flash would be nice but BMW has a better idea. They will sell you a car. Then after you have it it will start to lose some of its performance. Dont worry though because BMW will come out with a Performance Upgrade that will make the car better than new(for a sizable fee).
So we will be able to pay more money, on top of the cost of the car, for an upgrade that really should have been standard from the beginning. Or another way to look at it, I bought a car thinking it was tuned and designed to its maximum potential, now I find out that BMW will be offering a performance upgrade to buy. Kind of makes me feel like I didnt get my moneys worth at the beginning. Could have made it better at first, but wanted to wait and charge you later.
Some slightly cynical and jaded perspectives from me

My car has a noticeable lag to it all the time my fathers 328 is so much more responsive than my car its crazy I almost would rather have his car. At this point with BMW not listening to us I think we should get the auto magazines invovled they are the ones that rave about the cars engine. Lets get some real press about how bmw is detuning their cars and the disturbing false advertizing about no lag and X amount of torqe at 1800 rpm my car does not start pulling till 3000 rpm and does nothing for a full second when at WOT.

The BMW dealers are already pushing it even though there is no release date. When the local BMW dealer here dropped Dinan upgrades they told me that BMW would have its own soon. The BMW Performance mods. They already have some out, but not the ecu upgrade. Guess they need to get it right first.

Also check this post:
