Yes, but the process takes extremely long. A friend of mine had a flat tire. He contacted the city and it took nearly a year to get the money.

But hey, better late than never I suppose.

OP-that looks REALLY bad. At 45 MPH, the pothole has to be really big.

Just be happy you are not a woman. A woman would have tried to continue driving the BMW to her final destination before stopping to figure out what to do.

I gotta see that pothole - it probably needs to be upgraded to a pit mining operation!

Yes, it can be.

However, this is why we have full coverage insurance.
Report it right away to your insurance and they'll take car of it, minus you deductible of course. But, given how much BMW wants for their OEM, your cost won't be so bad.

They damage is WOW!

I don't know why some of you think hitting a certain type of pothole can't do that.
If it were deep enough, which it was, and the edge were sharp, which it was, and you hit the edge deal flat, all the weight of the car plus the momentun is going to generate quite a large pressure per square inch force, and ALL that weight hit on probably less than 2" in length and 8" in width. Where do you think all that energy will go?
Yeah, it can happen.

Plus, if you're running runcraps, those sidewalls are so freaking stiff that the energy just transfers straight through to the rim, instead of being absorbed and pushed out through a blowout in the sidewall and perhaps a huge dent. With RFT's that same construction that lets the tire run with no air, is the same construction that lets all that energy through to the wheel.

Well my car has 63k I'm out of warranty and honestly I think is was my fault

This happen at 3am I was going back home and I was a tired. I took the back road( I always take the highway, but I needed gas) this street is very narrow I was entering the curve and there was a pickup truck coming the opposite way, and well I got too close to the edge when I hit it I try not too lose control and the rear tire also fell into it, I had to drive like 100ft because I was in the middle of the road.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm going to jack up the car tomorrow and check if there is any damage to the brakes or the suspension if not I will probably get gunmetal CSL's but if I see any damage I will file a claim with my insurance.

here is a pic of the pothole, is really big , I when back to see it today and is more than 9 inch deep with a very sharp edge .
but I'm just clad that I'm o.k and that there wasn't any upcoming traffic, and well the pickup did not even bother stopping...

ZOMG

I'd definitely check the suspension / alignment after such an impact.

wow, man, that looks pretty bad. It shouldn't split like that on a 45mph pothole - I'd be demanding something from somebody, or else - suing!

GL

PS glad you've come out of it safe and hope the car's not damaged, other than the wheels

this would make complete sense if it was one destroyed wheel. however, the front wheel should have taken most of the impact and distributed enough energy through cracking to reduce the damage to the rear wheel. for both to crack like this and in the same exact areas, it's a bit fishy.

Unreal, that's not a typical pothole in the middle of the road. It's the side of the road, you are lucky you didn't loose control and wreck for it to break the wheels like that. Has to be more damage to the bottom/suspension of the car. City and BMW are going to look at it as running off the side of the road not hitting a pot hole in the driving lane. Insurance maybe sure the truck wasn't in your lane and force you off? That is still unreal. Glad you didn't total.
