1. Tyres take 200 miles to gain full grip.
2. Brakes take the 200 - 300 miles to bed in fully.

If you pick your car up in winter the above is even more important.

I'm not so sure the arbitary "200 miles" is relevant. Yes the tyres have releasing compounds in the very outer layer, and yes the brakes need bedding in.

There are ways to do this properly, and neither prevent you from Loading the engine through the rev range for the first 20 miles.

JMHO - based on experience of sliding around the peak district the day after I picked mine up.

The performance could also be down to the transmission. Aparently it 'learns your style of driving' and changes accourdingly.

Also not sure if 2008 3 series model has quicker change patterns. Apparently the 635d has this whatever it means. I cannot beleive it makes much difference with powerful cars like 6 cylinder BM's.

As far as power outputs are concerned I think I read somewhere that there is a tollerance of 5% which the engine can be below published output but can be anything above.

i.e. 300 bhp car. 5% below 285bhp, 5% above 315bhp.

So Mr Evil may have a good one.

That's why we're trying to get the Lambo to turn up, just to keep our ego's in check.

It's about documenting ALL the BMW's in comparison on the same day on the same dyno, with and without mods.

if we go to the R/R and his has 25bhp more then fair enough, but i cant see that happening!!

Odd one that - it couldn't have been a lockup as I was nowhere near the brakes.

Maybe a bit of DTC or just a bit too much torque going down round the corner.

i filmed a tiny bit during the day, but nowt major, no way could i have filmed are mental tear up, i would have ended up thru the hedge in the field upside down
