Base to HiFi from Junkyard
Looking at switching door panels from a junkyard e90. It has the hifi system while my car has base. Figured I might as well upgrade my car to hifi with the parts from this car.
What do I need besides speakers, amp, and recoding head unit to hifi? Can I just take the head unit from the junkyard e90 and throw it in mine? |

Hi Fi still sucks.
Get and aftermarket amp instead of Hi Fi it's the weakest point .Hi Fi speakers aren't that great either. You don't need different door panels only the tweeter pods. (unless you insist on tweeters in the rear.) for the fronts. Which are about 35 bucks a side from BMW for the front doors. Rear Speakers are a waste of money. You need wiring harness as there is none for a base system. Technicpnp.com makes 3 or 4 different types(just for the base system) depending on how far you want to go There are many threads on upgrading the base system. https://www.e90post.com/forums/searc...rchid=69524572 https://www.e90post.com/forums/showt...ht=base+system Head units need to be programmed for the options your car came with like usb , PDC , satalite, SOS and sound system type. if you could get a Head unit with the exact same options you would be real lucky. My hope with the door panels is to just add spots for rear door speakers.
I also want to add tweeters in the front so I would be grabbing the tweeter triangles. I then would want to upgrade everything from there and add a subwoofer in the back. I would definitely be adding an aftermarket amp. Would it not be easier for me to just convert to hifi then upgrade? |

Not really it's easier to add an aftermarket harness to the trunk that put in a a OEM one
. You could add thicker wires to the under seats to the trunk. At least that is what everyone does that has posted here that doesn't insist on OEM BMW only . something like the following is pretty standard. Speakers and amps may vary. The stuff he is using in the guide for speakers and amps is obsolete or dated. What's required a good DSP/AMP and at least a decent set of speakers for all the front locations. DSP can take the place of other EQ flattening devices like the one mentioned in the thread and do much more. cleansweep is obsolete and SWS is no longer available. When I decided to upgrade the audio system in my 2012 Honda Civic to a HiFi setup, I realized the importance of checking for additional wiring or connectors that are needed alongside the usual components like speakers, amp, and head unit recoding. These parts can differ a lot between standard and HiFi systems, and not accounting for them might lead to issues with compatibility.
Finding the right parts for my Civic initially proved challenging. That's where https://junkyardmaster.com came in handy. It's not a junkyard itself, but rather a comprehensive guide on used parts, buying and selling junk cars, and it also includes lists for many car-specific junkyards. This site was beneficial, particularly for someone not versed in-car audio systems. They have detailed listings, including a section dedicated to Honda models. There, I found compatible HiFi components for my Civic, like a premium amplifier that was an ideal match. Last edited by dwall; 12-08-2023 at 03:54 AM.. |
