IFH-0009 No Response from control unit using D-CAN to USB (Ediabas)
I bought the "BMW K+DCAN D-CAN CAN INPA Ediabas USB Interface CA" cable on ebay (here) and I am trying to do battery registration (new oem-same specs AGM 90ah 900cca) on my e92 m3 (ecu: mss60). trying to run these instructions:
Quote:
I try opening INPA, (two black dots- battery and ignition on) and I press Shift+F8 for "e90 (e91,e92,e93) / 3er", and I select airbag and it shows another communication error, so I try to go to engine -> "mss60 for s65 (m3)" but I get another communication error (screen shots at the bottom of the post). Weirdly enough, when I disconnect the cable from my computer both those black circles disappear from inpa. However, if I turn my car off, the two circles do not disappear from inpa. If the usb cable is plugged in it will have two solid black circles (engine/ignition circles), but it doesn't matter if the engine is running, engine stopped but ignition on, or completely off it will always show two black circles if the usb is connected to my laptop. So I am beginning to suspect the connection between my computer and the usb cable is good (since it blinks green a couple times when i try to run a job with inpa or tool32), but the connection between the cable and the car's ecu is bad. I made sure (by opening the cable cover) that pin 8 isnt connected to anything, since pin8 could trip up newer cars) I made sure that my c:\ediabas\bin\ediabas.ini file has STD:OBD I made sure C:\Windows\obd.ini has Port=Com1 I made sure that in device manager->com1 (BMW OBD Port) -> port settings the latency is set to 1. (all other non important com ports got assigned to com 4 and 5) I tried OBD Cable mode switching software "DCAN.exe" to set the cable to work on DCAN (rather then KCAN), this switching of mode only works when the cable is plugged into my obd port recently (when the led is red), after a minute or so the led turns off. Also when I try to send a command with tool32 when the red led, the red led will turn off immediately and will start blinking green a couple of times, but will return a "communication error" Here are some screen shots I took View post on imgur.com If you can help in any way with this problem (short of, return it and get a newcable) I would really appreciate it, thanks for your time for even reading this post. |

yes my latency (advanced port settings in device manager) is set to one.
and yes the ignition is on, i tried it both ways: 1) having the car running and 2) having the engine off but everything else running (two pushes on start button) hud on as well as power to radio and cigarette lighter both ways i am still getting the ifh-0009 error in tool32,inpa, and ncsexpert I just noticed something, when I have my ignition on and my computer connected, both black circles show up in inpa, and when I pull out the obd cable from the car's obd port (but keep the USB plugged into my laptop) the "ignition" circle turns off and the battery circle stays solid black. If I pull the usb cable from my laptop then both circles go in the off/white position. Seems like that should be normal behavior. However as soon as I select my model in inpa and try to load any module it gives me the communication error. Same goes with tool32 when I load up my ecu's .prg file |

Hello. I'm sorry I post this way for my first post. I'm actually struggling with this exact same problem (with same kind of ebay cable K+DCAN, did the same tests ... only the car differ : E87 2007/07). I just fell disappointed that this discussion ended here without a success or failure conclusion !
It is too bad that tuxblackedo didn't came back here to tell what happens since his last post Whatever, I'll be keeping looking on my side and on french forums if it is a car problem or a cable problem. What I have tried : - different laptops (two windows XP and one Windows Seven 32bit) - different sources and versions of EDIABAS/INPA/NCSEXPERT - DCAN.Exe fails/times-out - different versions and setting of cable driver (and the latest FTDI driver : http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm ) In fact, every thing you can find and read about this IFH-0009 error message. I will let you know what I ended with. Best regards. |

I returned cable and ordered the one you are SUPPOSED to get (it might look look like the same product image/description, but getting this from a wrong seller will get you a nonworking cable [like it did in my case]). Once I ordered the cable from the right seller: worked the first time I plugged it into my car/laptop no problems. http://www.ebay.com/itm/200696159881 or ebay user: "automotive-tool" Item sells for $119, but when I checked his feedback I saw a lot of users paying just $85 for it, so instead of buying now I made him an offer for $85 and it auto-accepted my offer. So if you "make an offer" to pay $85 you will already be able to pay for it and ready your order for shipment. One thing that might help (if you got to buy it somewhere else) is that the nonworking cable has a white breadboard and the working cable has a brown/green (typical style) breadboard. But again, beware, my original ebay order's product image showed a regular type breadboard in the connector. Last edited by tuxblackedo; 02-04-2012 at 06:39 AM.. |

Can't tell just by looking but that is the reason we all bought a specific seller's cable.

I have been coding my CAS and CIC for a while with np problems with stupid ebay cable that I removed the slide switch on to get working. Now I can't connect to my new RDC module. I just ordered this cable from one stop. Check out the response.
You sent a payment of $79.00 USD to Cindy Wu (cindy@one-stop-electronics.com) Cindy Wu - ha-ha and it's not originally from China? I hope it fixes my problem. |
