Beverly Hills BMW is SHADY!!
So my friend recently bought a new M3 in San Diego. On his drive back from Santa Barbara he got the low tire pressure warning for one of his wheels. He pulled over and checked it and it had about 25 psi in it. He filled it up and made it to Beverly Hills BMW, where he brought it in for them to check it out. He purchased his car less than a month ago and bought the wheel and tire insurance deal for an extra $1k. This was Friday at around 1:00pm. They told him that they did a "water test" on the wheel and couldn't find a leak even though his tire was low again when he brought it in to the dealership.
Now they proceeded to tell him that it was probably a problem with the sensor and that they would have to wait until Monday to check again and see if it is the tire. He told them that he has the tire warranty deal and they refused to authorize a new tire replacement. They told him they could throw the tire and wheel back on and he could drive it home or wait until Monday with no rental car in Los Angeles when he lives in San Diego. On his way home he got another warning and was ready to go fill the tire up again, but suddenly, only a short time after the warning light came on, he had a blow out. The blow out damaged the wheel surround fender and left melted blackrubber all around it. His side skirt was ripped off partially and needs to be replaced. The wheel was not "bent to the point where it would leak air with a new tire", but heavily damaged on the front past a point where it can be cosmetically repaired. Beverly Hills BMW has then denied any fault and placed the blame on him. BMw has also refused to replace the wheel because it can still be used without leaking air, even though it is covered in black melted rubber and plastic that can't be fully removed. He contacted his stealership, BMWNA, and Beverly Hills BMW, and they have all told him to get lost. They will replace the tire though What should he do? The damages are about $2000. I told him to wait off on going through insurance because then in small claims court he might not be able to get it all back and raise his rates. Anybody know if he should go ahead with the repairs through insurance or not? And who can he contact to get this fixed? |

Wow, that really is ridiculous.
BMWNA told him to get lost? That's not good business practice. I think another call to BMWNA should be arranged, and if somehow that fails I agree it's time to get a lawyer involved.

its not the warranty. its. its the dealership. i had a blowout. car got towed to momentum bmw in houston. Not only did they replace the blow out. the saw a bubble forming in another tire side wall that i didnt catch and replaced that as well. The SA manager there is badass. My Salesperson is a friend and great.

Yeah the wheel and tire insurance is bull****. I bought it and brought my car in with bubbles on 2 RFT and they told me to piss off. I asked for a refund on the plan and bought 4 brand new regular tires instead. Been going great so far . But I've heard some success stories with the insurance plan so maybe it was just my dealership.

common guess. just follow his story, you'd find many loopholes for the dealership to find excuses to not compensate and avoid responsibility.

I do think your friend is as someone else put it, SOL, but the situation is ridiculous. If a tire is pressurized to 32-35, and then later it's only 25, you've got a leak, period, not a TPMS issue. I've watched people on 5 occasions look for a leak on my tires over the years (of course not with the BMW since I have the protection which I've never used in 2 1/2 yrs), and it seems the more inexperienced they are, the less likely they are to find the leak. Some just don't care.
On the Nissan last time, a guy said no leak. Another tech came in and said you missed that? There's a bead leak right there. And the first tech goes, oh. Your friend should file some sort of report with BBB and DMV imho..... |

I live about 2 miles from Santa Monica BMW and a 7 miles from Beverly Hills BMW and I fight traffic to take my car to South Bay BMW for service which is 20-25 miles away.

You can definitely bring this to the court for 2 reasons. Negligence for the condition of your tires even when you had insisted on it and they deny your rights for your warranty that you had purchased. Good thing nothing happened to you during the blowout, if something did, they're in deep shit

Paperwork?
I am hoping all the paperwork is in order to show that it was checked out and there was no detected problem. I think that will go a long with with a potential claim. +1 on the BBB and also any local consumer advocate.
