Bavarian Technic Vs. Autel MaxiScan OBD-II Code Reader

What is the big differences between some of Autel's OBD-II code readers Vs. Burger Motorsport's Bavarian Technic reader at looking up or deleting Tuning codes? The near 8times price difference seems pretty large.

The Bavarian Technic is not a code reader. It is will read and clear normal OBDII codes and the hidden/shadow or tuner manipulation codes. It takes off from there because it is also a data logging system so you can monitor everything the car monitors. It is an enormous advancement for the platform.

I followed the link and found this:

http://www.amazon.com/Crescent-OBD2-...8&s=automotive

Which sounds like it does the same as the Bav Auto Tool.

just as a clarification, Burger is not the developer/producer, just a reseller.

I'm looking into buying a Bav Tech myself for my e36 but am waiting to verify full functionality w/ the e36.

I would love to log timing charts while tuning my boost controller.

Let's be clear....... Burger Motorsport does not own or make the Bavarian Technic reader. They just sell it.

Edit: Sniz, you beat me to it.

Sniz, it is awesome looking at timing charts with boost charts. You really have some good data to judge knock events.

Wow! If this worked for BMW's its a great find! I guess the main difference would be if it could see and clead the shadow fault codes.

Do you have the round odbII vs. the newest rectangle plug? I would let you use up one of my vin slots to test the functionality out, but I don't have the round adapter if you need it.

I'm pretty sure that code reading is just a generic OBD reader. I wouldn't expect it to read/clear all BMW specific extended codes. But it's cheap enough for someone to try it and let the rest of us know

i'm sure it is, but in my case I dont see how it would log boost? on my '99 the ECU has no idea what boost is...at all. You cant hook up a boost line t'd off the intake mani or something can you?

I have both types on my car, round one in the engine bay and the rectangle one in the footwell....did u get yours yet?

Adam is thinking of picking up the professional version and recouping cost off all the BMW freaks around here. I think its a good idea.

Sniz, good point on your E36. I don't think the Bavtech will log external sensors.

need standalone for that type of logging I think...I really want to keep the stock ECU in control of things for better driveability

yup...but I at least want to log other parameters. I can watch boost on my gauge and know well enough whats going on. Boost is more of a plateau on this thing, not a curve anyway!

I've had the enthusiast version for a couple of months. Let me know if you want to try it out.

OBD codes are about 10% of what the car can actually tell you. So in other words, it doesn't compare.

This is the one that looks more comparable to the BavTech tool..

The one in the OP's first post are the standard readers which are not comparable to the BT tool.. But this one looks very comparable, it really depends on whats on the program they give you to install.

Would be interesting to hear if the Amazon one compares. Regardless of what the BT tool does ...... $300 US shipped is not cheap

So...anyone willing to sacrifice $50 for the plug and review it for us?

Doesn't Amazon have a great return policy? You should be able to return it and say it didn't fit your car or something, and you won't even sacrifice anything except some time.
