I love the sound but the question is since it's mufflerless how is it going to sound while standing steel ?

I could make this exhaust myself this is pretty simple. He'll aim already 1/3rd their I have a muffler delete. Not to take nothing from Hpf but their nothing amazing to look at ..........however since this will make straight pipe exhaust more popular this exhaust will be the loudest, deepest, throatiest exhaust out for the n54 platform. And I think that's what hpf is after because to be honest hpf never holds back and a bit of highway drone is not gana stop them from making the loudest exhaust possible lol.

I doubt you could have made this exhaust. LOL, this is like their 3rd gen. exhaust for the n54. They made several before but ran into a couple of issues...fitment, rattling, muffler/mufflerless...etc. This exhaust will be the benchmark for the n54 community. like you said, it will be the loudest, deepest, and most likely the most HP gain. Not to mention quality. Im sure this exhaust will be good for 700-800whp, enough to withstand their single turbo setup. Now its all about how much will it cost.

+1, I hate when people bring their negativity in to threads.. HPF is the best thing to happen to the BMW community, thanks again Chris for developing product for the N54 platform!

This exhaust looks purpose built to mate to a single turbo downpipe

Haha...ok...are you an expert welder?

I've talked this over with Shawn/Vince at Lutz Performance because at one time I have considered doing a custom exhaust. Shawn does incredible fabrication work, in fact, he did a SAAB and it is nearly the same as this HPF setup. He also did my FMIC weld brackets..this requires serious skill and you aren't just knocking this setup out in a flash, well maybe you could, but it might look like crap surely.

The custom setup I've discussed would look nearly like this one HPF has done. Dual Y into a single 3"+ back to either just a split, or a single in, dual out exhaust/muffler. It is thought the drone would be next to nothing due to the 3" piping all the way back..might need some tweaking also to ensure that with a few tricks.

The labor and materials to fabricate this would run you $1500 likely. It would be an entirely welded setup since most places don't have the ability to bend pipes/presses.

Let us know when you have your's done though, would be curious to see pics.

It was more of a sarcastic comment then anything just because it's a strait pipe dowpipe back it does net get much more complicated then that lol.

However iam not knocking them surely enough as you said their theory is that full 3" back straight pipe exhaust will have minimal drone, i didn't think that was possible but that's why the pros are doing it they obviously know what's up and how acoustics work.

I'd be impressed if there was no drone.

Turner motorsport has a near straight pipe exhaust and they claim it has minimal drone too.

Never heard it in person.

Only difference is I dont think the Turner Exhaust is 3inch+ and I know it has one small muffler with a perforated core straight through.

Otherwise the exhaust is pretty much a straight pipe, no resonators, minimal bends.

How about the muffler on the turner and none on HPF. That will be a big diff in sound. Turner does drone, I was going to buy one and I have seen one in person. Only reason I didnt is I got my aa for $600. Turner and HPF are the best exhaust's made for the n54 IMO. This will be one of the loudest exhausts for the n54 if not the loudest. I cant wait to hear it in person. The hpf looks like it is secured very well which will help with the rattle and vibrations that other n54 exhausts suffer from, AA included.

This system was built to support big HP down the road. Just like their monster E46 M3's. I don't think sounds was their main concern.

Heheh! It's a straight pipe! What do you expect? They don't even have mufflers on there. On, and BTW, a single pipe 3.5 inch in diameter flows LESS than two 2.5 inch pipes put together. Do the math! So this exhaust will be AT BEST close to what other catless exhaust systems already provide when it comes to flow.

Sound?! This is relative from user to user.

Quality?! I doubt that the quality will be any higher than AE Performance exhaust systems. I inspected the welds on my AE Performance exhaust and for the life of me I could not distinguish them from the welds on my AR Design downpipes which I had laying next to the exhaust. It looked as if the two products were made by the same man in the same day! The shop that installed my downpipes and exhaust said that they have never installed a DP and exhaust combo before that fit so well. No adjustments were needed. They literally tightened all the bolts and everything went bang on where it is supposed to be.

Fully polished?! Well who cares since you can't see anything except the exhaust tips.

Please, understand that I am not bashing or trying to start a pissing contest here. It's just that your are presenting this exhaust to be the best thing since sliced bread and that it is so much better than anything else out there. I just have hard time accepting that. ...and it's not hate on HPF at all because I will be purchasing their intercooler over the holidays...

You've been in a car with a turner exhaust? Did it have downpipes as well?

I was about to buy that, but now that it drones in some aspect, I'm not.
