Needs to be in working condition with preferably low mileage.

The injector hole was borked then?

Yep, the injector isn't seating correctly. Possibly due to an incorrectly installed injector in the past.

There are full engines on ebay. See if any of the garages will break it out for you...

Bought one on eBay, hopefully it gets here in time.

Any other recommended maintenance whilst the engine is out? I was thinking of replacing the valve cover as it is prone to cracking and/or leaking. Also the engine mounts?

I would also make sure the intake ports are clean, also I would change gaskets.

I wish I had seen your message earlier as I have a spare complete 335i N54 head thats been sitting on my bench for a few months and I have just put up a for sale thread.
