Always do maintenance before mods, but if you have that already done then:
Catless Downpipes
DCI
Intercooler
Chargepipe
MHD Stage 2+
That'll get you to ~435HP or ~370WHP

All those items can cost less than $1,000 in total. As far as maintenance...oh boy. Make sure you have index 12 injectors, new water pump & thermostat, Delphi/Eldor ignition coils, spark plugs, walnut blasting, healthy HPFP, valve cover gasket, oil filter housing gasket, and fix any CELs. Those are the basics people usually do. Try to do everything on your own to save money if you can.

Now when you say total of 1000 or less for these mods. Do you know the brand that I should get and I would get my money out of it. Once I get all of these mods, will it be okay for me to use my car as my primary car with these mods

how many miles?

what maintenance has been done so far?

you can get 420 relatively easy, tune/bef/bolt ons and you're there

but this car is extremely expensive. you wont be able to afford it on a college budget, there's just no way. at least not without the help from mom and dad or racking up your credit card balances.

good luck.

Yeah to the typical college student, you'd be toast to have your N54 in healthy order with all maintenance done proceeding into mods. I'm a freshman in college and I've only owned my car for around 7 months, but I have burnt nearly $14,000 in maintenance and mods. (No help from mom or dad and certainly no credit card balances.) The N54 is an extremely rewarding platform, but just because you can buy the car doesn't mean you can afford it.(Properly)

Just buy everything on VRSF.

bad car for a college student unless you have a job and live at home with your parents. but FBO and mhd tune should get you there. maintence like injector, water pump and all the gaskets is whats going to kill you in cost if you dont diy.

I wouldn't bother with DCI and instead go with drop in k&n filter in stock airbox location.

I'm just saying anything can break at any time, and OP lives up north. Putting in a new HPFP when it's freezing out isn't fun. And that's not even a big job.

Unless you are chasing numbers and are going with a huge tune, stick with the OEM filter and box. Filtration is better and flow of the k&n is not noticably better.

I'd wait until after college and just enjoy the car as is in the meantime. This car will suck up your time and energy away from your college objectives and you will just regret it years from now, trust me. I'd focus on doing well in college and finishing on a high note. After that you could even get yourself an M4 and forget about this 335i!

This is solid advice. Wish I had the temperament to heed it back in the day!
