E92 LCI headlight disassembly (replacing AHL stepper clip)

So, this thing happened... The AHL (adaptive headlights for the uninformed) stepper motor is disconnected from the lens - I can move it left to right without resistance. Apparently not an uncommon thing after hitting a pothole hard or something.

A small white piece came out when I opened the back cover, which looks like the missing link. But I have no idea how to install it back again - I probably need to disassemble something, but what exactly? All the info, including YT videos, deal mainly with ungluing front cover, I didn't find any info on disassembling the internals. Has anyone done that and can share some tips?

I'm attaching pics of what I mean, including the way the clip is supposed to be mounted (judging by looking at the other headlight).
