Help needed: random dash lights turn on periodically
This started happening last week and I was finally able to snap a quick picture before the lights went away. I was at a stop light when all of the sudden a bunch of lights come on for no reason. This also happened while the car was moving. They come on for a few seconds and goes away...except for a little small circle that stays on next to the mileage indicator (see picture). After I turn the car off and restart, they are gone and its as if it never happened until the next time the lights come on again. Does anyone know what this issue is stemming from? Could it be the battery? I have an 07 and still on original battery but I've never gotten any battery indicator lights come on before. The lights also come one and go off within 5 seconds so not sure if its voltage

Im willing to bet your battery is about to take a shit. Mine was literally fine one day on my 06 e90 no warning lights no Christmas tree lights on the dash, went to start it one morning and it was dead as hell. Its an 07 and at least 6 yrs old. Its time to swap it out anyways.

Usually doesn't warn you when the battery is bad at first, happened to me. One night, got in my car turned on electronics perfectly fine but when the engine tried starting it would turn over once and all my lights went dead for a quick second and everything was resetted and come back on.
I figured out it was the battery after the third time I tried starting it, it finally showed the battery warning last. |

The stupid cable recall. Seems like its related unless the battery is over four years old.
Been contemplating of doing the recall but it can cause more problems than it solves

i initially thought that as well but the problem did occur until 4 months after it was done....and also the lights come on when I'm at a standstill as well. I guess i'll just replace the battery and see what happens from there.

How old is your battery? is probably AGM battery since your model is 07, before you buy a new battery do a load test at your local auto parts store. Its free.
edit: nevermind yes its probably ur battery since is the original one. AGM batteries tend to throw these kinds of warning lights on the dashboard when are low. |

E90 warning lights randomly appearing
I had a similar problem with warning lights randomly coming on, normally during cold weather and shortly after start-up. I put up with this for a while until it then got worse, and for the 1st time the warning lights included the battery charging warning (this was new).
I feared the worst - EMS not functioning properly. Having spoken to a few in the know, I changed the alternator (cheap one, new off eBay) and all is now fine. As explained to me - if the battery does not have enough power, the EMS will shut down "non essential" functions and a as a result warning lights come on. The battery has done its best to cope but simply couldn't make up for a lack of charge. The battery has survived this ordeal and is fine. Quote:
