IMO, this is not a product marketed toward the car enthsiasts on this forum. This is for people who don't know any better.

But is Dinan warranty based on the fact that the software is untraceable? Basically, the warranty Dinan offers is the fact that BMW can't trace the software update so you get to keep your factory warranty. No? Also, it cannot be resold.

Another great and overpriced Dinan product.
I think this is just a red herring for Dinan bashing.

Do you order the CD for software or do you just download it onto your PC. Same diff.

Do you sell that software when you get a new computer? 90% prob. not.

BMW warranty on a Vishnu, you are kidding right?

Wow, a lot of haters out here today. They should have released the info on Tuesday, fewer grumpy people.

With that in mind, the dinan flash makes quite a bit less power down low but in the mid/upper ranges the car should perform close to 1.47 (5-10 less whp).

I think this is probably a tune that is very close to the TT or JB2.

Ok. My point is when you get the dinan reflash done (probably at some bmw dealership), they will mark down your VIN (i imagine). This will allow ALL bmw dealership to trace which car has the reflash.

Does that make sense to you?

Looks really interesting to me. I strongly agree with them on keeping high end boost under control. BMW designed the boost curve to taper at high RPM for a reason!

Being able to alter the water pump curve, solenoid duty cycle targets, etc, means this will probably be the highest quality tune out there. I still think there is a strong market for the JB1/JB2 as entry level tunes, but this Dinan tune sounds like a better option for say 75% of the customers currently running the higher cost piggybacks.

Why can't they do something like this:

http://www.cobbtuning.com/products/?id=3256 $695

AccessPort
Cables
Preloaded maps: 91 octane map, 93 octane map, 91 oct + dp map, 93 octane + dp map, Anti-theft (engine disable) mode, and a couple of valet modes

Plug into OBD port, load map, done.
Or, add Street Tuner (or ProTuner) and add custom maps at will.

Am I the only one concerned about Dinan?

I dont know... I get the feeling Dinan is gonna make this reflash Stage 1 and then in 6 months they are gonna make a stage 2 which will make our stage worthless...

He did state that they are working on more products... Are the additionnal products we purchase from them going to come with an updated map free of charge?

This is Dinan we're talking about.

Finally a logical post. 13.2 PSI is a very nice increase and with full control of fuel and timing, and even the extra cooling plus warranty it looks like a very nice tune indeed. Plus no poking around in your ECU or worrying about removing it, etc.

It is expensive but may very well be a case of getting what you pay for. Personally I'll stick with the JB2(R). My car is running like a beast in these cool temps so I'm happy. But I can't wait to see some impressions and results from folks who get the Dinan flash.

... or maybe when teams of real engineers studied the issue they came to the conclusion that the factory turbos are not rated for that kind of impeller RPM. Having a turbo break apart at wide open throttle and throw shrapnel in to the engine is not a good thing. That is if you're the one paying to repair the damage.

Is the Dinan flash something that can be ordered and financed as part of a new car purchase/lease?

If so, given that most 335s are probably leased, the real cost is only $600-$800, depending on your lease term. Also, the flash probably has some resale value even if you purchased your vehicle

I'd put a serious bundle of cash on the line that says it cannot be added as part of the residualized value of the car.

In fact I doubt that BMW even specifically endorses this, much less sells it - Dinan is probably just offering to pay for repairs that aren't covered by BMW as a result of this mod. Or am I misunderstanding?

But you are correct - you can probably sell this back on ebay after the lease is up for, I'd guess, 60 to 80% of what you paid for it originally.

My 335i is a lease and my only two questions are, does it void the terms of my lease to install this mod? (I'm guess probably yes) And also, does my 2007 sport package automatic 335i sedan already have the oil cooler from the factory? I forget what determines if you have it or not?

Anybody else think it is mostly just due to 91 octane (Other tuners) vs. 93 Octane Dinan?

I for one can't get 93 octane in AZ.

I am sure stan@dinan just posted as a favor to jon@themshop-to let us know what is going on, I doubt they really care about what we think as a forum.

A lot of people here have a high sense of entitlement though.

Expensive, but looks carefully thought out. Interesting info re: reliability/longevity issues. This will sell. If I have a spare 2k in the spring I would get it. Driveability/raceability and minimal stress on engine are my priorities, not a couple tenths faster in the 1/4 mile. Can't wait for Euro install folks to test the top speed.

Actually, insuring that my 335 can embarrass the Lexus IS-F is a priority, so maybe I'd better wait for the engine structure fix and the bigger turbos...

My Qs are how did they get access to code, what deal did they broker with BMW to get it, and when is BMW performance coming out with something similar (if ever -- does Dinan have an exclusive on this?) ?
