updating FSC issues

Hi All

Been stalking these forums for some time and now is the time I need to post. Basically im trying to update my FSC codes. I have a greyed out sat nav option that a member called dconer on gps upderground said id need a package, so sent him my vin and he put together a zip with certs and files to load with fstool. I cant execute the first step which is to check and store the added fsc file he sent. I have connected to car but not set any parameters etc. I dont know if im going wrong somewhere.
  1. connect dcan to car and laptop
  2. ediabas all connected and working fine, Detecting functions of car fine
  3. load fstool (im a complete newb and have no idea how to configure this)
  4. failing to execute jobs

once i get past this issue, i can hopefully have a working sat nav.

any help really really appreciated. Guides for fstool or how to configure for this type of thing would help massively.

I have teamviewer on my laptop and wold gladly donate if anyone had time to connect and configure this for me

Steve

Theres a big thread about how to do this on the “cartechnology” forum, bmw/mini/rolls royce chat. Cic patcher v2 or something, then another on fstool. Have a read, might help

Can you give some background details?

You have a CIC yes?
Was this factory installed or retrofit?
Did you ever have navigation active?
You are trying to activate navigation yes?
What software version is your CIC running?

Best way is CIC Patcher

Cure to your problem is here:
https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1453464

1) Pull 1b file from car using method/script on usb detailed.
2) Run the generator choosing the mapping required and using the 1b file from above.
3) Copy code and use to install the updated mapping (download for free online never pay for them).

Hi Sensible

I have CIC on my 2008 e90. I bought the car 2 weeks ago and sat nav has never worked for me. Sometimes it's greyed out and other times it sits on loading. Connection on hardware side is all fine.

I'm not sure what version...how would I find this out?

thanks for the reply

thanks. I have instructions and two signature files and the fsc files for each module and thought it would be straight forward enough to load them onto CIC.

Thanks Sir Dave - I'll check this out.

I think I'm going wrong not entering correct parameters on fstool.

Nav greyed out can indicate VIN mismatch. Can you show the FSC Status please.

Firmware version can be shown in NCS Expert.

thanks mate. How do I show the FSC status? sorry I'm a complete and utter noob to all this. I have a laptop configured with bmw standard tools and a few additional bits of software as I want to start coding after this saga is sorted.

I can get the firmware version and post later when I'm home.

I still maintain following the info I linked to in my earlier post is by far the easiest. There's no need to get bogged down in laptops and BMW programs etc

Extract the 1b file, generate the FSC using the generator, download the updated 2019-1 mapping, insert usb into socket, enter FSC when prompted, if it's correct it will move to the update % complete line. Once complete it will reboot and it's done.

It's literally a 5 min job to extract 1b and create FSC (either 1 yr or a lifetime which requires one extra tick in a box) and after that the time depends on how long it takes to download the mapping on your internet connection. Update of the maps by the car takes about 45 mins.

thanks jwilalex. Would I need to perform firmware upgrade of CIC first?

I've had a quick read but not heard of that method before.

For updating the maps, yes i agree. But does this method work when trying to activate the CIC for the first time (instead of using an emulator and/or CIC patcher V2), which is the OP's problem (and mine as it happens) ... ?

Edit: It worked to get my 1b & FSC (my CIC is C1A), just waiting for the maps to download now before finalising the install. If it works, happy days, can send back my emulator!

Blank

please tell me you have good news Sir David?!

I'm not sure what version of cic I have. I will try that method of what you mentioned jwilalex and report back. Will do this tonight once kids finally asleep and if I can stay awake!

I have the latest west Europe maps so fingers crossed.

Is there anything else needed apart from extracting 1b file and running generator? just seems to good to be true?

Damn. Do you know what version of CIC you have Dave?

Ive managed to find mine and its CIC08. I think I need to update my firmware to a later version before I can do any sort of map or FSC update. Hope you have better luck mate!

Anyone know of a guide to updating CIC? The dealership I bought the car from is happily paying for a local company to update and fix this, but id like to understand what needs to be done/how to do it.

Shame, my motor is a July 09 build so may have some different firmware running.

As for the invalid code be very careful with the differentiation between the letter O and a zero. First time I tried this method (2018-1) I wrote the code down and took a screen shot of it and it failed. After paying a tenner online I ended up receiving the exact same code back and it was at that time I realised the error. When updating to 2018-2 earlier in the year and to 2019-1 last week I copied the code from the generator and pasted it into notepad (on the pc) because it’s billy basic old school and shows the zeros with a line through it.

Just in case. If you’ve updated your maps before and entered a code obtained previously I see no reason why it wouldn’t work and similarly even if it’s the first upgrade why it shouldn’t. If you’re running older firmware you may need to hunt down the dvd version opposed to usb variants and upgrade that way. But the fact it even got to inputting FSC implies it’s happy to do that or it wouldn’t even have asked for it.

The issue im having is that I can't run the pre patch on idrive before reprogramming the fsc codes back to it. I've not even tried updated maps yet as I don't hold out much hope for that working either.

I can get some dual layer dvd disks and try update them that way and see if I get as far as the fsc code input. But I was told apparently my unit may have been retrofitted and seems to of lost its programming for the sat nav module. Had the car 3 weeks or so and it's always been this way.

I've got it booked in at a local car multimedia specialist in West bromwich and see what they can do. The dealership who I bought the car off cannot be more helpful in trying their best to help with this and are footing the bill, very refreshing to know.

in the meantime, my rear drivers side led indicator developed the usual fault that seems to surround these units and dealership replacing that unit too.

on the plus side...I just coded folding mirrors with fob

just scouring what else I can code that may be useful

right, found out my revision of CIC is 09. I ran FSC TOOLS and had the attached sreenshot. Can anyone point me in the right direction of where and what to try next? Would purchasing an emulator fix this by plugging it in and selecting Sat nav?

Really beginning to p1ss me off a bit now.

thank you all
