I'm itching to get swapped from CCC to CIC and eventually add combox too
I was watching a video on youtube showing CIC in action and it seemed to show the internet connection connecting via an iphone, can it do that rather than needing its own sim?

It needs tethering to a phone - you can't plug a sim into the combox

Although Jammy has explained it but I thought I will clear it.

Stage I:
CIC which gives you
Radio
CD player (you can store music on the hard driver
Naviation
Phone (if you have mulf/ TCU in your boot).

Stage II:
Combox which MAY* give you
- 6FL connecting your ipod / iphone with standard usb cable
- 6NF BMW applications (update Facebook status, tweets, internet radio)
- 6NR ability to play videos off you iphone / ipod
- Bluetooth if you havn't had it.
- A2DP Bluetooth music streaming
- BMW internet**
- BMW live**

*depends on the software of your CIC and what hardware you buy. 6NR require different hardware to other options.
** Requires tethering from your phone.

Hope it clears.

Looks great, definetly something I would love to get done to mine.

I wonder what stance BMW would take if you looked to P/X...because obviously the cars the nav demand more money than ones without, I wonder if they would give you the same price of a car which came with factory fitted Nav...

Really good point as mine I will trade in next time with BMW against the next one yet they will only give you what their list shows for your car details and that's what it came with as standard!

I've just spent the last few days trying to find out how to cancel the navigation once started......

So I thought I'll try the voice commands - "stop guidance" & it worked! I'm actually impressed with the voice commands - change radio stations, making phone calls..... etc....

I'm finding out new stuff it can do everyday!

This CIC is the nuts!

Does the voice commands come as part of the combox retrofit?

Guys, Voice commands work. I may have a snap shot of voice commands some where. I will try to find it and upload it.

I think voice command is linked to CIC, but you can code it to have combox functions working as well.

Jammy, when you want to cancel navigation, it is at the same place where you set the navigation. Go back to the same place (top left option) and you will see 'cancel the guidance' rather start the guidance.
Press it and it will work.

Yes, voice commands are good, especially when you want to ring somebody. Press it and say 'call ....' and it will do.

I have set number one on the short cut buttons to this function so that I can start and stop guidance really easily.

How do you set up the shortcuts for that?

I have stored shortcuts for the radio memory but not sure about the other shortcuts.

I think its easy as going over the function you want to program, hold the respective shortcut key and it should save it

I have voice control on my BT and it must be my accent as it always calls someone random for me

Looks amazing would this be possible on a car with HK7 sound system & Bluetooth and no CIC or CCC. Already have the USB port as well.

If I don't change cars in December this will be a must I think

It's pretty simple just go to nav and programme an address to go to and start the navigation, then go back to where you can stop the navigation. Have the stop navigation bit selected but don't press select. Then on which ever short cut button you want to program it too just press and hold.

That button will then stop any current navigation or start navigation to the last destination.

You may be able to program the button before you start the navigation but mine wouldn't let me when I tired it on mine earlier but that might because it was already programmed for that function.

The number buttons are fantastic, I don't have any programmed for radio presets, mine are

1 - Start/stop navigation
2 - Climate settings (I don't have a rest button so I can get the fans going if the engine is off)
3 - Map Overhead view
4 - Map Perspective
5 - Split screen on/off
6 - Brightness of the idrive screen (I don't really use this but I've not found another use for this button)
7 - Change the map between coloured or the grey version with the yellow/orange/red lines
8 - Night mode for the map

CIC wasn't a priority when I bought my car but it was a nice thing to have but I couldn't live without it now. I love having the maps on with the traffic reports. Also having a satnav stuck to the screen with wires to the cigarette lighter has not been missed.

I'm really looking forward to getting a combox installed, it should complete the package nicely.

The besuty of BMW HUs/ Navigation systems are that they can be coded to any OEM sound system specs.
Yes, CIC can be coded to HK L7 sound system.
