I just bought a 335i from the dealer, about 30 mins later engine malfunction! :(
I just bought a 2012 BMW 335i E92 Coupe from the dealer, I drove home about 30 mins and got the "Engine Malfunction! Reduced Power".
I sounds like a rattle noise almost like wastegate rattle coming from the passenger side of the engine while in drive. The car has 52k miles on it, I pulled up: generic codes P13C9 - VANOS? P3792 P377A P377B P2D60 P2C58 VANOS Solenoids sounds like one issue, the dealer wants me to take the car back to have a look at it. Would VANOS also cause a rattle noise?

Thanks, just afraid of doing more damage to engine. Might have to tow at my own expense.

As long as the dealer isn't some sketchy lot, they should have a 30 day "warranty" period or buy back. They should pay for the tow also.

Hopefully they have more than a "30 minutes or 30 miles" warranty on that thing. I would have them pick it up, fix it, give you something to drive until then, etc. Remember, they work for you, they're trying to get, keep your business!

What type of dealer was it? Certified BMW dealer, high end independent pre-owned dealer, or small mom & pop low priced used car lot? Makes a difference.

This. Don't delete codes, don't do anything. If they aren't willing to tow it, you pay for it. It might be the best 100 bucks you've ever spent

Wait a moment - I just realized that you are the same guy that went ape shit on Veneisha's service staff at BMW of PS.
So you got rid of that car and bought another and you are already having problems with it too? Hmmm... https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1550636

I guess I have horrible luck, and no I still have the 328i and its still broken, now I have two broken cars. I guess its not a pre owned lot, they just have a few preowned cars.

If it is a Ford dealer, then you may or may not have recourse, depending on the status of the vehicle sold.
1) How many miles were on the vehicle when you bought it? 2) Did you purchase an ESC (Extended Service Contract)? 3) Was there any written and documented warranty that came with the vehicle at time of purchase, for which you received something signed by the dealership in writing? 4) Did you get a copy of the AS-IS Buyers Guide Form? See link below. All used vehicles in all fifty states are required to have one. https://www.ftc.gov/system/files/doc...es_english.pdf On your copy, which box is checked?

2) No 3) No 4) No AS-IS Weird though they just picked the car up with tow service. Looks like the repairs will come out of my pocket. Thing is the financing company who gave me the loan called me and he said they wont pay for the car if the car is broken. Not sure how that works, I though they wouldnt let me drive home without the check clearing, I did put $2500 down though.

You are required to receive and sign the AS-IS form per the FTC. Either they gave you one and you forgot about it, or they forgot to give you a copy. You need to get that - speak with the F&I Manager. Being a franchised dealer, I will bet the farm that it had the AS-IS box checked on it, since that is common practice. As such, the dealership is probably under no legal obligation to pay for any repairs. That said, however, most franchised dealerships will typically try to help a customer out if the car breaks down right after purchase for simple goodwill. Being kind, polite, courteous yet firm in your requests (not demands, requests) will probably get the dealership to cover all or nearly all of the repair costs. Regarding the lender (Which lender was it, by the way? I can help further if I know that), I've never heard of the policy you state, but that isn't to say that it isn't something they do. If that is the case, I would try to be polite and get the dealership to cover the repairs. If they won't, then the lender might help you, because if they won't fund the deal - then the dealer will either have to repair the car or simply reverse the sale and refund you your down payment - which they are legally allowed to do.

Well - either he learned his lesson and will attempt to resolve this matter at the dealer with kindness or he will go and threaten everyone there like he did at BMW of Palm Springs and get blacklisted at yet another dealership in SoCal.
Hopefully it will be the former. In all reality, however, if I were him I would attempt to just get the dealership to cancel the deal and refund the down payment. If the car has that many issues right after purchase, I wouldn't feel comfortable with its reliability in the long run.
