Charging fault? BMW lci e90

Anyone got this warning before? Had a browse on the forums and heard that someone's power steering went out while driving, it was on for like 10KMS and on the way home it turned off, should I be worried? Thinking of going to a battery shop and getting it checked? Low voltage or is it some other problem if anyone has experienced such warning?

Thanks

Update:

Car stopped in middle of road after getting signs of, abs failure, airbags off, flat tyre etc etc every sign popped up and car died. Searched forums and suggested a failed alternator because of really cold weather..

Anyone know where I can source a cheapish one around?

Thanks

Could it just be you have a dead battery? Have you actually tried reading the voltage?

Had ract come and hook it up, not charging at all. So dead alternator, had it towed to nearest mechanic hopefully cna get fixed soon but don't want to be charged over for a alternator, repco said 720, saw threads for approx 3-400. Oil leaking again need that checked too,

If they hooked your battery up and it didn't charge, then it's a dead battery. Alternator doesn't work when you're not in motion so they can't really check for it. An alternator doesn't technically charge a battery the way people think anyway. Youd have to drive 1000 kms to fully "charge" your battery from flat.

If your battery was fine and your alternator was dead, RACV would have jumpstarted your car. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but that's how I see it.

There is also the scenario where both your alrernator and battery need repakci2, but for your sake, I hope this is not the case! Good luck in finding a bwtter better price!

Yeah sounds like alternator to me too. New or reconditioned alternator going in?

Well, the guy hooked it up to a jump start and it would live off that, angel eyes flickering, hook it up and it runs fine, take it off and dies instantly.

No idea what I want atm, Im looking it to sell it soon so reconditioned sounds like a better option, is there any specific website I should be looking at?

Cheers

Update:

Mechanic has found that because partially of my oil leak issue, oil has met the alternator resulting in the side bit breaking, quoted $680 for a chinese one, I demanded a rebuilt bosch one for same price as I found online that they were less.

The oil issue was oil filter gasket needed replacing which was done exactly 10months ago.. $40+1.5labour and 2 hrs for the alternator

That sucks, and it's only 10 months old? Would there beca 12 month warranty on the gasket and labour? If done at BMW, you could probably get them to pay for the alternator too?

Yes, 10months since it got fixed at an decent euro indy in my area, should I demand to get it fixed for free? $40 parts and 1.5 labour apparently!

Also they called me and said they'll do $680 for a bosch one, went to supercheap auto and got quoted $475, rung them and told them to get it off them.. or demand their supplier or themselves to stop overcharging me.

I had an alternator fail also. Basically when the voltage dropps off it effects many exectronic systems. Air bag, ABS, Water pump, charging system. etc. Here are the fault codes i downloaded immediately after Alternator failed. I hope this helps someone troubleshoot their alternator failure. My car is a 07 335I with stage 2 Burger tuning. Installing a new alternator fixed all the faults. $1600 at the stealership. I did not have time to change it myself. It happened at 123K miles.
