E90 335i Impressions and ??'s
Howdy gang,
I was lurking around for a couple of weeks then pulled the trigger on a CPO'd sparkling grey metallic, sport, 6spd, nav, logic 7, leather. Car had high miles 56,xxx but seemed to be in great shape. There was/is lots of chips in the paint and the dealer did an "ok" job of fixing them. I just accepted it as it is a used car and I feel I got a good deal. So my questions that keep popping up and I keep searching for on here are: 1) Rough idle/skipping idle every so often...seems this is normal from dealer SA and board members reporting similar problems. 2) Turbo lag...I know there will ALWAYS be a little with a FI engine, but this is bad. Anything below 2000 rpm the car just seem anemic. This leads to number 3... 3) I push on the throttle .5-1 inch of travel and nothing happens when cruising along in any gear at any rpm. I'm not sure if this is normal or not as I've only driven this 335i. Is this a software issue and or a electronic throttle issue? 4) Is there a way to know what software version I am on, if I have new HPFP's, if I an have an oil cooler? I thank you for your responses. |

Congrats on your purchase!! It seems like some syptoms of HPFP failure to me. It could also be faulty plugs. Check with the dealer to see if the plugs have been changed. Being that your E90 is an '07, it would not have the new HPFP. ZSP is the sport package which should come with the oil cooler. You should also be able to hit 155 mph before the limiter kicks in. You can also have the dealer print you a complete options list for the vehicle which may list the oil cooler. As for the lag, refer to http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147781. It might help answer some questions about lag.

Congrats...nice car. I had the same one (e90 6 speed) on a lease. The 6 speed feels real slow without a chip because the gearing is way to tall in my opinion. Once chipped, it fixes the problem...and feels like it should have from the factory. There's a lot more power down low which is great in everyday driving where rpm's stay low.

BMW software is just shit, that's my take after getting GIAC stage 1. Before the flash I had rough idle and lag. Now I have rock steady idle and it drives like a fine tuned and velvety v8. How software alone did this? Not sure, just know it did.

I also had the same exact one on a lease. All 6MT sports, including yours, have the oil cooler. Sparks plugs (and air filter) are changed at 50K service. It is possible, but unlikely that any software update has been performed.
